Product meanings!

Just wondering, I have always sold genuine branded items with a lot of time, research, patience and £££ to find the right supplier (Not on new stealth accounts!). I have noticed a lot of questions here about aliexpress, alibaba or dhgate who are known for copy items of brand names.
So my real question is, what's the difference between the meanings - Replica, ⊗⊗⊗⊗, Copy and Counterfeit? And what is deemed as acceptable to sell and what is not? ( ⊗⊗⊗⊗/counterfeit pretty obvious). Mayby it might help some people including myself from falling into the word game trap and buy item which are deemed acceptable, just because they are sold at the above wholesalers!
Just a general question really, could be one way of keeping stealth accounts alive. ;)

There is a STICKY at the topic that expands on your question.

I can also strongly suggest looking for posts by jeffweico.

He too has explained in full details the reply to your question. We have posted on this often over the years.

Re: Product meanings!

It can mean different things to different people.

Generally a Replica, ⊗⊗⊗⊗, Copy or Counterfeit is simply a rip off of a branded item which is illegal and should not be sold on eBay

Sometimes people will use the term copy or replica though when an item has been made in the same style as a branded item (Isabel Marant heel trainers for example). This is not anything illegal about this so long as copyright is not infringed on. That does not mean that the item will not be taken down under the Vero scheme though. Apple phone cases for example are often sold as generic cases that can fit an Apple iPhone. Apple will often still take these items down even though they are not actually infringing on their copyright. Why do they do it? Well because they can.

A lot of items taken down by the Vero scheme on eBay will be ⊗⊗⊗⊗. But genuine items can also be taken down under the Vero scheme.

It is an easy trap to fall into thinking just because you have receipts to prove that your item is real that eBay will not Vero it. They often do.

Don't forget the onus is on the seller to ensure the item they are thinking of purchasing is OK to onsell.

Just because it is on the likes of alibaba, aliexpress and also being sold by some on ebay, does not mean it is acceptable.

An example is buying an Apple product.

That can be a risk.
