Default Should I pay ebay fees?

Hello,

So my situation is that my ebay and paypal account are both closed, and ebay has started sending invoices to my paypal saying I owe them money. The money that I owe is from the resolution centre, when ebay refunded the buyer, and now are asking me to pay for that refunded amount.

Some of the amounts they are asking for were already refunded by me to the buyer, so I don't know why they refunded the buyer when I already refunded the buyer.

I am certainly not paying for this, I have tried explaining it to them but they are unorganized and don't listen.

Anyways, what happens if I don't pay the fees? (Around 500-600$ USD)

1. I live in Canada, so they don't have my SIN #

2. On my account, I have my real name, but not my real address and not my real phone number

3. I don't have bank info or credit card info on ebay, but I do have my real bank info on paypal and a credit card on paypal as well.

Thank you for any help!

Hello, the amount will get passed on to a debt collection agency. As Ebay don't have any of your significant info you won't hear anything else about it.

For that amount I certainly wouldn't worry, especially if I had made every effort to refund those who were entitled.

If you don't have any money locked in your paypal account then close the attached bank account, or at least cancel the Paypal payment instruction. You could also report your CC as lost and get it re-issued if you wanted to be doubly safe. Your bank won't share any info about you with PP so no real worries there.

Hello, thank you for the reply.

Does it make a difference that the credit card on my paypal is under my brothers name, and not mine?

Also, Once I have closed my bank account, and got my brother to report his card as lost, will his paypal be in danger?

Will they start going after my brother for the fees? Or because the fees are under my name, they will only follow me.

It doesn't make any difference as such. The only problem might be if you have linked your accounts to his somehow.

If he has used that card on his Ebay/Paypal account at any point then he could find his accounts limited. Or if you access accounts on the same computer, on the same IP without any precautions.

If not it should be fine.

Yeah, well since we live in the same house, paypal has linked the accounts in the past.

My brother does not have any bank info or credit card info on his ebay, just his paypal.

Also the CC he let me use on my own account is different from his CC.

Do you think its best for me to just pay?

Well you used a different address which is good, and no link with the card.

To be honest I don't think it will make much difference one way or the other, except you will be down $ if you pay. If your accounts are linked they will probably limit your brothers accounts anyway.

Leave it for a while and see what happens. If they start hasslling your brother you can pay then.

Okay, I'll leave it for a while.

I have read in another thread that it takes 6 months before they pass it down to a collection agency.

What is odd about this is, when I call ebay, they tell me I don't owe them anything and that my ebay seller fee's are actually in the positive (which means they owe me money).

And when I call paypal, they tell me that I can not make any payments to ebay through paypal (which is where ebay is sending these invoices to) because my account is closed.

Thanks for all the info, I guess I will sit on it for now.
