groundhog, you have missed a VALID post by Modee. Never use an SS# that is
not yours. Down the track it will not ever work. Please trust Modee on this.

Default Pay Pal SS# ... a bit morbid

Don't laugh...but can you use a family member's ss, name, etc. for PP verification...even though that person is "no longer with us"? Will pp know that person is deceased or are they just matching-up ss with name?

Also, asked this question in another thread but never received direct answer:
Any reason why I can't use my 15-yr. old son's ss# on PP? Again, will they know his age or just making sure ss# matches w/name?

I would urge you not to use your 15 year old sons real SS number. Even if you are only doing legit stuff, you don't want to take even the remote chance of them screwing up his credit for the rest of his life. As for the deceased family member, there is nothing that they can do to them now, so you might as well go for it.

In re-thinking my question, you are right about not messing w/son's ss and/or credit...he has plenty of time to do that on his own

The other...the "no longer with us"...so, you don't think they will know that person doesn't exist any longer?

the dead person thing may work, and i think it has been discussed before, but you would be in trouble if they ever limited you and asked for a drivers license.

Think I will give it a shot. Will create a new pp that matches eb w/ss # for pp verification. Will let you know how it goes.

As its been discussed before there is no way around it...giving false SS# info is a good way to end up in big trouble..

ebayhateluv, I thought they could check the SS# if the person is deceased. I guess not.

No you may not use a deceased social - when someone dies this is reported to the SSA, and the credit bureaus pick up this information quickly and mark the credit profiles accordingly. At some point PayPal may run credit, and this will result in the shutting down of both the PayPal and linked EBAY account.

Further, using a dead person's social is considered a form of identity fraud.

Default Is it wise to use one of your kids ssn for pp?

What do you think? Is is wise to use one of my kids ssn for PP?
I don't want to take the chance of them having bad credit just in case.

But I guess all you would have to do is make sure that account is always in the positive and if something happened, I could call and say someone stole my kids ssn because they are 11 and 5 not old enough to open a pp account.

I don't know what do you think?

you can't sell on ebay without offering paypal or a merchant account. they make you choose one or the other for new accounts.
