If you can't afford inventory, maybe dropshipping could be an option for you. I dropship from amazon.com. Anyway, as to what you should sell, look for something you're interested in selling. See if there's a market for it, which will take tons of research. See if it's selling well on ebay. It's not as easy as you would think to find things to sell. You can always sell junk around your house too. One man's junk, another man's treasure...

Dropship is not the best idea to start with - especially without knowledge/ seeing the quality of the product . How can you not afford inventory and yet want to sell...? |

Find the right item to sell is the hardest part, and if your selling on ebay, its even harder. Ebays restricted items list is a mile long. May be easier with Amazon.
Business 101: Never have too much inventory of items, esp. on a new items that you dont even know will sell.
I agree with rsot, you don't need inventory just yet. Just order 1 or 2 items, sell it and purchase more inventory with the profit. Example, order 2 items for $40 total. Each item sells on ebay for $50 a pop, thats $100 profit. Now you can order 4 items next round for $80...so on.

I do wholesale as well. Products selling prices are from $5 - $15, is easy to move.

Nobody will tell you here what to sell...What works for me might not work for you so you have to figure out yourself what you gonna sell....As aking mentioned here, this is the hardest part so be willing to spend a lot of time on researching and don't forget to take action.....Try one think try another one and so on sooner or later you will find out your niche
Good luck

I started with nothing I mean it needed to borrow the $40 from my Gf To get the stealth guide
I can see where ur coming foe OP but start slow you can create accounts with $0 it's possible , and you want to start slow and gradually build, u don't need to buy a container of product to start all u need is one item and than keep flipping it back into ur business
When u find the right item after 5-6 months that's when everything takes off big time and that is no time usually takes 3 years to turn a profit from a business

Take a look at Alibaba, AliExpress, or Dhagte for a start, but dont look for VERO or counterfeits, look for non branded items and calculate what would be the best profit on ebay. Some people dont agree with me since this place is full of counterfeits, but dont look for that, just look for none branded items and youll be fine, also look for a wholesaler in your area, you might get lucky.

Took the words right out of my mouth. The only thing is that stuff from aliexpress and dhgate and those places take literary FOREVER to come because they are coming from china...

Dhgate is an amazing trade site once you take out all the counterfeit stuff which unfortunately there is alot being china and all. But there are plenty of non vero non counterfeit generic items which can make a small fortune on ebay and Amazon if you do your research properly and look for a good couple of niche areas.
Also the time frame shipping from China is pretty good, I always make sure to select DHL as the courier for shipment and more often or not it has arrived within a week which id say is pretty damm good since its come halfway across the world, got though customs etc
If your looking to go business, you need some startup capital like any business and a serious mind.
Otherwise finding stuff around the house you dont need is always a good steady way to make some initial money to invest not to mention start building your feedback and reputation on ebay/amazon

I did not read it that way. He is just saying pre-order means no inventory, goods get delivered right?

Nothing wrong with preorders so long as you know that you will be able to send the items out.
2 times a year I have massive pre-order sales on eBay, have done for a couple of years now.
The issues come when people either don't read the listing (or even the title) or when the supplier lets you down. Luckily the first has only happened once or twice for me, and I have yet to be let down by my supplier (something to be said for German efficiency)
You have to make sure that the listing complies with eBay rules though RE presales

Especially for any US accounts without big time history and credibility. They throw sellers of for pre-selling tickets to sporting events all the time. It is crazy.
I agree 100% with the post above. Maybe in the UK you can do that. US eBay that is a no go for sure.

Order 2 items for $40 total.
Sell them for $100 total.
$100 profit?
No, that's $60 profit, assuming you can price items more than double what you paid for them, and assuming you can skip Ebay's 10% fee.
After Ebay's and PP's fees, your $60 profit (not $100), your profit is $52.
