Recovering funds sent to a scammer using friends/family option
Hi guys
I sent funds on advise on someone I knew who claimed it was for a platform that had potential to generate income in the future. The guy disappeared shortly after. Hindsight is 20/20 should never have done it.
Unfortunately it all turned out to be a scam. The funds were transferred through friends/family option in paypal with the source of funds being my credit card.
Any advice or experience would be appreciated on how to recover the funds. Thanks in advance!

Your only recourse is to file a dispute on the transaction through your credit card issuer. There is no purchase protection on friends & family payments, they're same as cash. No refunds.

Can't claim unauthorized use unless it really is because PayPal can review log in history and transaction activity, etc. The OP actually sent this money, so no go.

Chargeback is the only path.
I have had a USA scammer on the forum chargeback a friends & family payment before. But it was because of what story to told to the paypal rep that he got them to open a dispute.
Usually you cannot open a case, but over the phone it is possible.

In the charge back, is there a difference in the likelihood of the outcome if you say it was an unauthorised charge vs you bought something that wasn't delivered? My bank asks these questions when opening a charge back.

Cause your filing a chargeback outside of paypal, credit card companies charge merchants chargeback fees when they get chargebacks / so paypal wont be too happy about that / but that doesnt always mean your account gets limited, but theres a chance

Iam pretty sure PP passes on the charge to the account holder.
