portable OS on flash drive

I tried searching but did find exactly what I was looking for. Did anyone try running a portable OS on a flash drive, such as any linux OS. Is this a good method for Amazon Stealth?

I've never found it comfortable running OS from external hard drives or USB flash drives. It more often than not result in bottle necked performance due to USB version etc.,

Where possible, try to keep everything running from an internal hard drive, something connected via SATA cables at least.

Virtual machines are a good option.

P.S. by performance I mean a lot of lag. Can get frustrating.

I run my VMWare OS's off a 1TB External Hard drive but it's not the same as trying to run a full OS off a thumb drive.

I heard with the new tech available via USB 3.0 flash drives linux runs without any hiccups. That being said, I will give it a whirl and report back, was just curious if anyone has done this.

I can't comment about USB 3.0/3.1 (which I'm sure makes a HUGE difference regarding this particular topic) but I was only able to run very small versions (namely DSL) of Linux from a USB 2.0 flash drive. When I tried bootable Ubuntu, or even bootable Win XP, I ran into the bottleneck issues Play mentioned and frankly lost interest.

I did that experiment when I was still in college, before I ever sold anything online. By the time I started with e-commerce I was knowledgeable about Virtual Machines. I figured VM's would be much more efficient way of managing isolated e-commerce accounts than bootable OS's. Better performance, easier to backup (hell, easier to save data period), no bottlenecks, super easy VPN management. The list goes on.

I can't really see any upsides to running stealth accounts from a bootable OS vs. running them from VM's. Any particular reason you're considering this setup rather than simply installing your Linux distribution on a VM?

Like you said, booting a VM from a flash drive would run better than booting the whole OS. Put all your VM files on triple-copied 128Gig micro-SD cards, hide two of them, and do your work off the 3rd one. Eat said micro-SD card if your door is busted down by law enforcement.



EDIT: Make sure you keep a bottle of drinking water by your desk or wherever you work. It would probably be hard to swallow the card otherwise lol.

You guys are funny. Someone mentioned that Amazon is no longer vm ware friendly. Actually one of the account sellers. Said he's been using formatted laptops now. So I thought why not a os on a flash drive.

Someone? Oh well why didn't you say "someone" said it! Did they also say why VMWare is no longer usable?

People use whatever they feel is most reasonable to them. How does running an OS from a thumb drive better than VMWare? Please explain in technical detail please.

In terms of stealth, there is nothing to gain by installing an O/S on a flash drive or external HD - The external flash or HD would only be seen as a secondary drive on the same machine.

The O/S on the external drive will still use the same ram/processor/display card etc, the same way as the O/S installed on the machine itself does.

If you're planning to do that for those reasons, you may aswell install a secondary O/S on the machine itself ... or better still, VM's, either on the machine or an external SSD as you have you have more options to tweak each VM to make them look different.

If you're going the external SSD route, I would suggest you stick with Sandisk rather than their cheap Chinese counterparts as they do taste better, especially with a glass of wine.

You can. But it's very lousy, unless you use Tails or smthng like that. Better use VM. Which is practically impossible to do from USB

If you know what are you doing and how Amazon work. With 1 old used desktop you can run 20-30 account easy with out linked or hiccup.

I have 4 active Amazon seller accounts and I use a different laptop for each account. They're all on the same WiFi network:

Account #1 uses a Chromebook on my normal IP from the ISP (originally used PIA extension but that somehow disabled itself)
Account #2 uses a Chromebook on an IP assigned from the Chome PIA (Private Internet Access) extension
Account #3 uses a Chromebook on an IP assigned from HideMyAss
Account #4 uses an Asus laptop on Windows using the HideMyAss app

As you can imagine, there's a lot going on. Account 1 used PIA until one day PIA stopped working on that Chromebook .. now it's using my home IP. Account 4 is using HideMyAss, and that app CONSTANTLY crashes .. and I'm worried it'll crash while I'm accessing Amazon and they'll connect the accounts.

Ideally I would like to use one PC and have instances for each account, with their own Static IP. I hate using these proxy servers. Not only is it risky, but these apps keep going down and I'm sick of checking on them.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

using a VM is the best method
