Beating FBA for buy box?

Is anyone noticing winning the buy box from FBA sellers is getting increasingly more difficult? I had a system down where if I beat the total price of a FBA by $1.02 I would usually win the buy box even on a product I had never sold before (items are in the $30 - $50 price range). It seems like in the last 2 weeks that amount is increasing. I've had one product set for almost $3 less then the FBA seller for 24 hours and he is still winning the buy box.

its not all about price, quantity also plays a part in that

Actually the formula is the following: "Lowest FBA Price" - 2.7% - 1 cent = Buy Box

Good point on quantity. I'm sure some sellers stocked up, although this particular account sells items in the health and beauty category which I wouldn't think vitamins would be in the christmas wish list.

Anyway I monitored one last night. A fairly new FBA seller had the buy box at $58.99 when non FBA sellers were selling at 56, 54 and 52...FBA had the buy box all night on this item.

are you on prime when you are looking at this? That could play a part in it too as you are more likely to buy something seeing that it has free shipping thus amazon is more likely to show you FBA stuff

No. Not on prime. I am actually on the account where I am selling the product as well. And my sales have dipped dramatically in the past 2 weeks. I can't put a finger on it though.

I was an exclusive FBA seller on Amazon since 2009. Just suspended.

If you are both featured merchants and going against an FBA seller it's about 3% less to get the buy box.

However, I had noticed before Thanksgiving that it was moving to a higher % sometimes as much as 7% less to get the buy box.

Sorry to hear about your suspension but I'm glad someone else noticed that winning the buy box against FBA had increased. I've seen almost 10% not winning it. :(
