Amazon MWS API with a VPN

This thread discussess MWS API questions.

I have a Amazon seller account isolated in its own Windows 7 Virtual Machine connected to a VPN (24vc.com) using Softether. Its a healthy account and has been selling thousands of items to happy customers since for years.

I have a custom python application which queries the Amazon MWS API for Amazon product information. It parses and displays the information I request it to fetch from the MWS API. I limit my time on the Virtual Machine seller account only to necessary account tasks / uploading inventory / responding to customers.

The python application is very resource intensive and involves rapid Amazon product queries (50-100 at a time) and rapid opening of dozens of different Amazon product pages in a browser to compare / research data. Because of the resource and latency requirement its best suited for my local PC instead of my VM.

I would like to modify the python application so I can use it on my local pc but have all communication tunneled through my VPN so my local PC's IP is not seen. I will be using this isolated Virtual Machine seller accounts secret key to access the MWS API. If for any reason my local PC's IP is revealed I will be suspended and lose my seller account. I have no tolerance for risk here and cannot risk any chance of IP leakage. Despite being told by my developer this is possible I am too wary of many people, (especially contractors) being "yes" men without fully understanding the gravity of the situation. One slip up and I lose my Amazon account and I have no income.

Here is a diagram of the idea: https://i.imgur.com/RWKqX7b.jpg The python application has two parts, the python script which runs in the background and a local port opened in a browser which displays the MWS API data which is fetched.

Questions:

1) Is tunneling MWS API communication with a Python script feasible from a technical perspective? How difficult would this be to implement?

2) What hurdles / potential areas of difficulty would or could this make?

3) What fail-safe procedures would be need to be created to ensure no local IP is leaked whatsoever?

4) Would the Virtual Machine connected to the VPN with Softether AND the Python script information being tunneled through the VPN be able to happen simultaneously?

5) Any other suggestions / tips or advice regarding my dilemma?

Re: Amazon MWS API with a VPN

I dont think any sort of VPS / dedicated server / VM would provide me with the latency or response time I need.

For example, I just tested an internet browser droplet on digital ocean running Fedora with some ridiculous $80/mo 32gb 6 CPU SSD solution and I opened 10 random Amazon product pages. Even with this amount of juice each tab tages 3-6+ seconds to open and load respectively. On an average work day I could easily browse 1000 Amazon product pages. If each page takes 6 seconds to completely render I am spending 1.4 hours per day staring at a rendering Amazon page. On my local PC its almost instant. I need near instantaneous response time in product page rendering or it is not worth the effort.

Now I thought about this. The MWS API wont be an issue in regards to latency or bandwidth because its only making extremely simple API calls and a VPN would have little effect on this. All Amazon product page hyperlinks I open would be rendered on my local pc browser. The Python scripts sole purpose is to simply fetch and display in a window: ASIN prices, titles, sales ranks, product page urls, etc. These calls are very low bandwidth and take no rendering time. The latency issue is opening tons of Amazon product pages for further research after I skim through the python API call results.

I repeat, the API calls are not resource intensive. They are small, simple rudimentary calls. The Amazon product page opening is resource intensive part. No VPS/VM will provide the almost real time response time I need in opening hundreds and hundreds of Amazon product pages throughout the day. Because of this I see no use for a VPS.

I hope I am explaining this clear enough.

One slip up and I am done.

Heres what the local python script looks like on my local PC (without any results being searched/shown)

Anyone familiar with MWS API?

Wrong crowd I think, you won't find a lot of developers here..

Though as far as IP goes, you just to have a kill switch enabled and you'll be fine.

Tunnel traffic between a python script and the MWS API between a VPN to conceal my IP.

Wow, I am running into the same dilemma. Have you had any success or failure for that matter in this venture? I am about to embark on the same journey and if you have any advice it would be much much appreciated! lol ;)
