Amazon.FR Taxes

as most will have seen The French Authorities have forced Amazon to put a banner up 'if you sell in France you must register for their taxes'
but my friend told me when you hit about 250k it suspends your account until you sow them your French VAT number i think it is,

has anyone been hit by this yet?

its 20% of the entire amount of sale which is a Absolute Disgrace.

Thanks.

Re: Amazon.FR Taxes

20% VAT wow! I thought it was bad in Canada..

You have a few options:

1) Register for VAT in France so you can legitimately collect VAT without issue. Each marketplace/country is different in regards to tax. Stealth accounts on Amazon.com for example can register an EIN with the state to resolve tax obligations. Supplying an EIN (or VAT in this case) won't necessarily link you unless its been used before in which case you have to register a new business / corp / entity in France and apply for a VAT number to use.

Personally I do not know as much about EU accounts as NA but I know Amazon.com may use your EIN to confirm theres a "MATCH" with the IRS records. I know Paypal does this. EU accounts may involve further investigation by a human eye to confirm your VAT and ownership matches your stealth account. Maybe some EU people can chime in.

2) Create many stealth accounts to disperse sales to stay under 250k and ditch once they hit the limit and get suspended. This obviously is not a desirable route as your accounts will never be "permanent".

What business model are you following for Amazon? Unless it's PL then I'd ditch an account way before it gets to £250k. You could always drop sales to FR if you'd prefer to keep the account as long as possible.

I only sell in NA. I make my accounts to last the test of time and do collect sales tax. We dont have the 250k limit in NA.
