what exactly is it with virtual machines that make it a different computer?
 

As opposed to say, different user accounts? What is it? If I install an OS, same DVD image, is there something unique about this install versus the next install?

different version browser , different fonts, different browser plugin ..etc

We are using the same computer so hardware is the same

you can install different software and plugin to make it different.

you have more control over customization with virtual machines than user accounts

you can modify the resolution, fonts, browser versions etc

cannot do that easily per user account

But what if you don't do ANYTHING on a new install of windows on VM? Right out of the gate, use it to register with Amazon, will Amazon know?

When you say new OS, does this means it has to be different like xp win7 win10 or for example 1 win7 ios file and then install new windows from this iso file?

VMware also gives you peace of mind, knowing that the computers are completely separate.

for those who are using VMware, do you get cheap license on Ebay or you bought it from VMware.com?

Alternatively virtual box is free and serves the same purpose.

Vmware is easier for many machines though

virtual box is soooooo unreliable and does not work out of the box. 2 dollars is so much more worth it just to make those things go away.

Vmware and Virtualbox are both unreliable at least for me in ways too numerous to mention but I'll list just a few...

1. They both use unreliable file systems. Images can easily be corrupted and you'd struggle to recovery these.

2. They're hungry for newer hardware, (Vmware and ESXi) to be precise.
They want ECC memory, expensive raid cards and enterprise HDDs if you want to guarantee your data.

3. They both have limited GPU drivers. There isn't a monumental advantage to using VMs over user accounts if all your VMs are going to have the same GPU driver.

Lookout for Linux based hypervisors. You could find one or two that do not have all these demerits.

I had an Amazon shop that was suspended due to failed verification running on a virtual machine with Windows OS.

Later operated another shop with a fresh virtual machine but running Windows OS from same installation disc as the previous suspended shop. This shop lasted months without any problems, but got deactivated by Amazon a few days ago due to allegedly inauthentic goods - and it doesn't look like anyone reported my products, instead an automatic flag by Amazon due to certain account behaviours or characteristics.

Conclusion? Different OS on different VMs probably better but you can probably get away with using the same iso for each VM. Maybe others with more experience can clarify

Safest bet is to just use VMWare and set up new virtual machines.

It keeps everything clean and safe.

I do full clones of a master VM, install a fresh browser with different plugins, change screen resolution, disable IPV6, disable WebRTC

Question: should I disable WebGL and UserAgent? or does that look suspicious?

disabling them would make you extremely unique
