1. They both use unreliable file systems. Images can easily be corrupted and you'd struggle to recovery these.
2. They're hungry for newer hardware, (Vmware and ESXi) to be precise.
They want ECC memory, expensive raid cards and enterprise HDDs if you want to guarantee your data.
3. They both have limited GPU drivers. There isn't a monumental advantage to using VMs over user accounts if all your VMs are going to have the same GPU driver.
Lookout for Linux based hypervisors. You could find one or two that do not have all these demerits.
