If you run Windows XP for the VM, you can run 20 simultaneously.

No way that processor could handle 20 XP VM's simultaneously. Probably more like 10. Sure there's enough RAM to potentially run 60 XP VM's at the same time, but the capabilities of the processor would be a bottleneck.

You probably need a tb ssd drive for that, plugged into an 3.0 USB port

Put a liquid nitrogen cooler on top of the processor

Keeping it cool would keep the processor alive but would not increase the rate at which it can process data..

Most of it is on the 3 video cards I think, but then we could put some liquid nitrogen on it hah!

No need for more than 1 video card unless you plan to game on it. 1 gpu is more than sufficient to run 20 instances of VMs.

The main issue is RAM, as XP consumes very little CPU power. If you give 1 GB of ram to each XP VM, it will fly like a rocket. So, 64 gigs of ram = 64 happy Win XP VMs, and that is without dynamic ram allocation, and with it you will be able to run around 2x more machines. Ram nowadays is quite cheap, so getting some rig with 128 Gigs of ram is not so fantastic. For example, for my stealth stuff, I run a 2U server with dual E2630 CPUs, and 128 gigs of ram, and it goes very smoothly with around 50 VMs inside (mixed Win 7 / 8.1 / Linux machines). And yes, video card is not required at all to run all these machines, as it is emulated as well by the hypervisor, and thanks to the Intel VTx technology, visualization overhead is very tiny.

Give me a AMD server motherboard with socket g34 quad socket and those 16core CPUs and I'll run way more than 100 VMs.

Is that 16 core more than one chip or is it just one chip?

They are on just one chip, but they run at a slow clock speed, around 2.3. Get a quad cpu socket server motherboard and you have a nice folding@home farm.

Well the way I was thinking is....no one really needs to run ALL the VM's at the same time. I only fire up the VM's I plan to use and I only fire them up when I actually plan to do something.

Actually, with a proper setup, 100 of them may run at the same time...

Going to need some several verizon mifi as well running several vm, each vm switching user accts within each vm, trying to reduce the time printing labels vs switching user accts down to seconds rather than 3-4 minutes per user accts
