AMAZON UPC codes for listings

I used to purchase thousands of UPC codes from eBay for my AMAZON listings, They work for years.
But today, AMAZON shows I could no longer use those UPC codes because they were belonged to another company.
How did you guys get your new AMAZON UPC codes for listing products now ?

If amazon are to be believed they now check all EANs and UPCs against the GS1 database. If so then GS1 are the only reliable source.

You can also apply for GTIN exemption on new ASIN's.
