Locked out of Amazon account
 
Hello,
I tried adding a phone number for two factor authentication on my stealth account and it now shows that the account has been locked. Funny enough I was still able to access the account on one of my computers and when calling seller support they said there is nothing wrong with the account.

After numerous phone calls it turns out that when adding the phone number for two factor authentication it locked my buyer account. After calling amazon customer support they said they only way to have the two factor authentication removed is to submit a government photo ID matching the name on the buyer account

Can I get creative with a government ID? Will amazon be able to check the ID through a data base and see it is ⊗⊗⊗⊗? I really need help with this

If account is not stealth you can just call amazon and explain what happened.

Account is stealth but all legitimate information. I can provide them anything they ask for. However to call seller support I need to get inside my account which I can’t. I even had amazon cs contact seller support and seller support said they can’t be an intermediary for information.

Still not able to access the account. Orders are still coming in and no emails about the seller account health. There are a lot of orders that need to be fulfilled. If I cant get this solved by Monday, amazon will likely suspend the account from the orders being neglected. Please let me know if anyone has any advice.

My real seller account has been restricted and had no access to my seller dashboard while orders were coming. In that case I called amazon customer support to ask them to deactivate the account temporary in order not to receive anymore orders and asked them to cancel all the current orders until my account is recovered and it worked.

Did you mean seller support? Were you able to log into seller central at all? I cannot even login to contact seller support

It is not deleted. Ive been locked out for 48 hours and orders have been coming in every hour since. I even talked to seller support while I still had temporary access on one of my computers. How did you even have listings without 2FA? Literally first thing you do when you create a seller account is it demands you set up 2FA for obvious reasons.

Seems insane to lock an active account over authentication although from a security point of view given Amazons track record with account breaches I kinda understand what they're playing at.

When you do gain access add the authenticator app option too.

AFAIK 2SV is now mandatory, even older accounts have been migrated - there's no setting up any more.

That's why you must keep an active phone number attached to the account or initiate an authenticator app, the latter will at least get you into your account if you let your phone number lapse but I still wouldn't recommend it as the sole means of access and get lazy with your account phone.

I did have an authenticator app for 2fa. However it asked me if I also wanted to add a phone number for extra security. The lock happened immediately after adding the phone number

Yes but I have talked to a bunch of appeal services and this issue does come up. If i had user permissions setup with another email I would still be able to run the account until the issue was fixed.

For anyone who wants to avoid this I highly recommend setting up user permissions on an extra email.

For anyone who wants to avoid this I still think keeping an active phone number, ideally never changed, and an authenticator app is the best way to prevent getting locked out. Add your suggestion by all means ( there's no way on earth I'm adding it to my active accounts) but not to the exclusion of the above.

My phone never on the account never changed. Only when I added it as 2 step authentication did I get screwed.

I can't think why they would deny access if the phone number you have on file is the one you chose to use for 2SV, particularly if you had an authenticator in place too.

That's Amazon for you I guess, although I appreciate it is of no help to you in this case.

Im pretty sure because setting the 2sv phone number on the seller account also sets it on the buyer account. The buyer account was then linked to my suspended buyer account that had the same phone number.
