Amazon charge when shipped.

I startted a buying account and wanted to see if amazon charged the buyer before the order was confirmed. And Yes they do charge you when you buy. but you do not get the funds until you confirm.
so what is the deal with that??
Other sites i have purchased from do charge when ship not when i initially purchase. So i think the buyer is unaware and alot of sellers are unaware . meaning. If you purchase from amazon and the seller does not confirm for a while. you were still charged and it would take a while for a refund...

"What is the deal with that?"

Am az on has to act like a form of Es cr ow - makes sense - if you don't have confirmation of shipment why would you release funds?

Then any new seller could wait for time to withdraw and scoot. Yeah the refund process sucks but what can you do? What do you expect from them is more of the question that you should answer.

I also doubt that Amazon hsa actually CHARGED the crad. They probably put a AUTHORIZATION for the purchase price on the card. This happens to me all the time when I buy from Amazon. The charge is held in my pending payments and sometimes even falls off after a few days, then gets reinstated.

There IS a difference technically, altough you cannot use that money while the authorization hold is on the card.

That is also how my merchant account works. When an order is placed on my website, the card is authroized for the purchase price immediately. If I don't confirm shipment within 5 days, the authorization expires and the money is then available on the customer's credit card. If I confirm shipment, then the money goes to my payments account. The other option is, I can cancel the order, and then the money becomes immediately available to the customer.

Amazon sold an item that was not in my inventory a while back
I was instructed not to worry since I hadn't hit the confirm shipment button his card would not be charged.
