Never knew this that you had to have insurance when signing up for pro merchant. I think it is rubbish. Because when i had pro merchant accounts never was asked for insurance .and how can they ask you to carry insurance?? I think if you were a brick and morter store yes but home based? the only thing it would be good for is when buyers rip you off.

I think the amazon soapbox people should put more effort into amazon bs policies. the only ones on that site are the cry baby booksellers talking about total useless garbage

I have had several PM accounts and have NEVER been asked to provide any type of proof of insurance.

It DOES kind of make sense in a way, though, especially if you are the manufacturer of a product. We live in a lawsuit crazed society. If someone buys something through Amazon and the product causes injury, the attorneys always want to sue as many people as possible - to increase the chances of being able to collect on a judgment. And Amazon, of course, is the entity of choice, since they are most likely the party with the most money.

Maybe they only enforce it if you are selling certain things. I mostly sell books - very uinlikely to cause injury - so maybe that is why they don't bother with me.

I'm not offended. I'm also not your average bookseller.

I agree that many booksellers - specifically those in love with books - tend to be a little nutty and complain about minor things. They don't like me very much either, as I approach this as a business rather than as a hobby.

I mean, I LIKE books, don't get me wrong, but I'm not overly sentimental about them either.
