Activity: 0% Longevity: 69% | | Amazon purchase query
Well my camcorders getting pretty old..so I decided to buy a new one off amazon (suprisingly it was cheaper than ebay).
I've paid to buy right from a actual user, he doesn't own a shop but just is a seller on amazon I gain from his profile etc.
He has 98% positive feedback.
But i wondered, hes put 7-15 days as delievery time for the item when it's worth £400 ($600). Which kind of worries me to which class of postage he's sending this item.
Is amazon safe if anything goes wrong like it's damaged or lost or am I totally out of pocket if it goes wrong?
I've never purchased from them but I just thought I'd ask you guys?

Generally on Amazon delivery times are set out longer, and if your a normal seller on Amazon selling an item you can't change delivery time on the page sinces a default listing.
But not to worry - people usually send items early and you get them before the delivery time.
Theres some listings i can't edit aswell which have huge delivery times but people always recieve the items i send out way before the estimated time.
You could msg him if your still worried.

You should be able to return, if the item is not as described.

And if he gives you any trouble (or simply does not reply), you can just open an A-Z claim, and you will almost certainly win. You are not even required to return the item after getting your refund, if it comes to this stage.

There are a couple of different processes.
Obviously deal with the seller first for resolution.
If that does not work you take the next step.
My recommedation would be discussion with the seller at the start.
Majority of sellers care

I had one guy who described an item as "like new", so I decided to purchase it. Once I had received it, I was horrified by its condition. There were tons of scratches on it. I contacted the seller and he did not reply, so after about a week I opened an A-Z claim. Amazon found this in my favour, and I got my refund a few days later.
Then about three months later, this seller emails me to state that he still as not received the item back. I told him that I still have it since he ignored me entirely and had to open a claim to get my money back, but that I would be happy to return it to him if he paid for return shipping. He refused and asked me to do it at my own expense, and then quotes the rules that he should have followed ("contact seller first, then return item to get a refund from seller").
I pointed out that if he had followed his own advice and at least attempted to resolve my complaint (instead of just ignoring me), he would not be in this situation. He was adamant that I should pay to return it to him, since in his opinion condition can be subjective (yeah, right... not for such an extreme difference between "mint" and "heavily used and abused") and that I was somehow in the wrong. I then asked him "why should I have to pay for your dishonesty? You are lucky that I am kind enough to have me even offer to return this to you, as I am under no obligation to under the Amazon A-Z claiming process, so simply pay up and I am happy to return it to you; the only way for you to get it back, is to pay up". He then told me that "hopefully someone will repay your kindness one day, my friend" and "enjoy your goods" and after that, I never heard back from him again.
I just threw it in the trash after that... the condition was so poor that it was literally useless to me, and nobody in their right mind would buy it if they were aware of its condition.

Yeah thats my worry with this item, he's put its brand new and the body only of a camera, but he's obviously a seperate seller, he also has 98% positive feedback but when i did my research on him i couldnt find anything negative..it's odd. But he's given it a description as new but as he's not a seller it said on google to only trust amazon directly..so I was unsure..but I purchased it anyway as I thought if worst comes to worst I'll just chargeback with my debit card company.
It's good to hear it's safe at least Thank you for all the advice guys it's been taken it but hopefully i won't have to resolve anything..except learning a new camera
I have messaged the seller immediately after payment so just going to give him time now to respond (he's got 3 days till monday) and wow Elijah thats mad..got me worried now *scared face*

I'm actually really glad I opened this thread. Today I recieved my item and was so happy, as it was listed as 'used- very good condition'. However I was extremely shocked when I found the camera has severe scratches, dints and the fishcup damaged.
Everything else in the camera was new, but not the camera. So I contacted the buyer, contacted Amazon. The buyer claims that it is used so this is acceptable damage but he knows nothing about the fish eye. I asked him why nowhere in his item description it mentioned these scratches etc. I didn't get a response, I also said I don't class this as 'very good condition'. Anyway the seller said he'll only refund me if I return the item and incur postage costs and he's 'satisfied the camera been returned in it's original condition' which really pissed me off seeing as he sent it me otherwise to the description! And damaged! So I've opened an A-Z dispute..what happens next? whats the timeframe?

No offence, but opening up an A-Z claim is not cool. This could cost the sellers account possibly going into some sort of trouble.
Are you a seller on Amazon yourself?
If it is used, then you need to take this into account. People doing chargebacks and A-Z claims here there and everywhere cause damage to sellers accounts and if you are a seller, then you know what I am talking about.
Maybe you should have paid extra for a brand new item?

If they really cared about their account and their customers, they would not lie about the item's condition. Something that is described as "very good condition" but that has lots of scratches and damage, was obviously misdescribed just to sell when the seller is well aware that it would not have sold had it been described accurately. This is exactly the same situation that I was in.
And it sounds like he is just going to lie that the item is not in the condition that it was sent in, if the OP were to return it. So I would have no issues opening a case.
Also, your point about buying a brand new item does not hold water. If the item had been as described, then there obviously would not have been a problem. Why should the OP have to pay for the seller's mistake? You seem to be shifting the blame onto the OP, when he has done nothing wrong himself. The seller is at fault.

Exactly what Elijah said. Whilst I understand what your saying right- used very good condition to me just means its opened. He could have clearly outlined the scratches/fishcup damage. But he didn't. If I was selling no matter what condition used I'd outline this. Thank you Elijah youve said my points really.
I just think it's sad amazon customer services are saying i wont get a refund now :@ im so angry

Why did Amazon say that you will not get the refund? Did the seller respond to the claim?

I feel a idiot though..maybe I thought too highly and trustworthy of someone saying a item's used 'very good condition' should include heavy scratches, fishcup being completely damaged and buttons stuck :(

private i think
heres his profile he's a right cocky guy.
He sent me a message saying ill win over you and all this stuff.
I said look ill happily post it you back the item, as it's not as described and defective.
he said if it's returned brand new, gleaming he'll not give me a cent back.
But I explained it was damaged upon reciept, he said it's not his problem and amazon will always rule in his favour.
So I spoke to amazon who told me to return the item. Cost me an additional £10 but got a tracking number so it's going back to him! Now am just wondering what will happen next
