Been doing well on Amazon, but have concerns

I opened an amazon seller's account a few months ago and things are going great.

I sell video games. The games that I buy are often times defective, and although I test them before I sell them, I still have issues with them not working for my customers.

I have about a 10% refund rate, which I'm perfectly fine with, but is Amazon okay with this? All my customers are happy. I've never had any complaints. If a customer says their game doesn't work, then I give them a full refund and I don't require a return. No questions asked.

My customers have been happy with my service, but I just need to know if Amazon is okay with my high refund rate. Any ideas? I really don't want to get restricted from selling because I'm doing very well on Amazon and plan to keep at it.

A 10% refund rate is HUGE!

I don't understand???

You buy these games and test them and they work, but will not work for your customers?

Are these the kinds of games that need to run on a cracked console?

no good you will be suspended... all it takes is one pissed buyer and you are history. Change up your inventory..

AmazonStealth 08-09-2012 01:23 AM

>1% is the target....this could only be a matter of time for you :(

cherrqell 08-09-2012 01:34 AM

10%! eeeeeeeeeesh! Hate to say it, but if you dont take steps to reduce that, your days are numbered! Sorry.

Gamefreak 08-09-2012 02:08 AM

Dont even know how you're still on amazon with 10% refund rate. Seriously thats 1 in 10 customers thats WAYYYYYYY TOOOOOOOOO much and its not even that thats just bad for business and you cant do business like that.

You selling DS games or something, thats the only game section where I can see someone having such a refund rate and not for the reasons others might think

pujolsfan 08-09-2012 09:37 AM

I test my games, but I can't test them for hours and hours. I test them each for 20 minutes to an hour. However, when a customer plays a game they are going to be playing them for a long time and errors on the disc will be found that I wasn't able to encounter with my limited testing. That's the only thing I can think of as to why they say they don't work correctly.

I get a great deal on these games and a 10% refund rate is really no big deal to me. If I don't have customers complain, will Amazon still kick me off? I don't understand why it matters to them. I'm making them quite a bit of money and refunding my customers with no questions asked if there is ever a problem.

pujolsfan 08-09-2012 09:41 AM

And no, these are all legit Nintendo GameCube games. They're not pirated.
I get tons of them at a time for really cheap. I have to test them all. A small percentage of them work, and I sell the rest of them in bulk to be resurfaced. If 90 percent of the people are happy with their purchase, then it's totally worth me selling them. I've never had any customer get upset with me. Are there standards that I can look at, or is like ebay and they'll kick you off whenever they darn well feel like with absolutely no explanation?

pujolsfan 08-09-2012 10:07 AM

Also, my order defect rate is fine. Whenever I refund someone, I mark the reason as "customer return" or whatever instead of saying that the item is defective. Is there any harm in this?

Unless you are a known BIG comany amazon doesnt give a rats a$$ who you are and how much you are making them. I know 3 ppl who were making 400K a year on amazon for 2 years until amazon suspended all 3 of their accounts this year.

Amazon doesnt want such a high refund hate as that will/can easily lead to problems. You only need 1 super pissed buyer before they decide to look at your account and it could be over for you after that. Offer replacements instead of issuing refunds, it doesnt show up on your metrics and you will still have happy customers

Best to get stealth backups ASAP.

cardfelon 08-09-2012 04:48 PM

Who even plays Nintendo GameCube anymore??

I'll definitely start offering replacements instead. I'll be sure to have two copies in stock and only list one just in case. Thanks for the advice.

A ton of people actually. Quality titles don't go out of style like shooters and sports games

adam34996 08-14-2012 10:37 AM

I have been operating at a 6-9% refund rate for years. Sometimes they dont work, sometimes the customer changes mind.

Amazon is more concerned with how quickly you handle your refunds. Keep your ODR rate down and you should be fine.

rsot 08-14-2012 02:13 PM

2% or less is still an industrial norm.

adam34996 08-16-2012 03:53 PM

possibly so, but his concern over Amazon is unwarranted which is what he was asking about

mercurial333 08-17-2012 12:44 PM

There is no target for refunds, what are people getting excited about.

You could probably have 99% refund rate and be fine ( theoretically ).

MICKY H 08-17-2012 11:15 PM

If goods are s/h the amazon accepts there will be a higher exchange or refund rate. If you are selling new goods with this refund rate they would suspend you guessing your selling counterfeit.

Javelin 08-22-2012 12:19 PM

GCN (GameCube games) have alot higher rate of being unplayble and defective than other mediums for holding games....They scratch and get mucked up easily. Just one single scratch, and the game becomes unplayable. I would suggest you take up selling cartridges (they won't play at all if they are defective) or selling bluray discs like Ps3 games.

From time to time I sell Ps3 games on feeBay, but I am starting to wonder if Amazon
might provide a better market place for some of my Ps3 games.....hmmm..

temptation84 09-01-2012 07:59 PM

You should be OK but I wouldnt press your luck and try to do what you need to in order to reduce that rate. My refund rate is currently at 1.8% and that is even a bit high for me.
