No. Any public wifi area should be avoided because it is a shared connection where others have probably used. In fact, any IP address that you cannot control yourself should be avoided.
BTW, if you're in a hotel, I would think you're on vacation...why not enjoy your vacation and forget about ebay/paypal/amazon!?! | The Following User Says Thank You to An0nym0u$ For This Useful Post: | |

I have PC at home which installed logmein on it. If needed, I can remote login from anywhere I want to

You made this statement. So if i do this when i logon to my ebay account from computer say out of town through logmein with my computer at home. It will use my at home IP address correct?
| Yes, that is right. Quote:
Theres no way i could reset my router though im sure to change ip address so i would already have to have whatever account already on that certain IP i need
| Yes, you can. Just like you sit in from of your home PC. When you reset your router you will get disconnect from logmein for 2-3 minutes and do log-in again. I use no VPS

great info. I might be a little slow on this one though. I reset router inside the web browser but i always unplug it from the cable modem & router so if i am away out of state. I would easily reset in web browser but would it still take effect after awhile without me unplugging and replugging the modem/router? I am going to try now to see if i can get it right. Just more info is always helpful.

You don't need to manual pull the plug and replug it. You can do the reset via the menu

Never had a problem using internet in hotels etc. Amazon trace more than an IP. Just imagine how many people log onto amazon at JFK. Will amazon delete everybody, the answer is simple 'NO'

Logmein and Teamviewer are good services to use - dont use hotel public IP which could have likely been used and abused.

You have to reset your modem too which you need to unplug. Since you're not home, you cannot unplug. Did I miss a step somewhere?

Or did you just 'know' it was an option.

Something you got from those in the know? | GB, you misunderstand - I know HOW logmein works...I use it BUT I have not resetted the IP using logmein - I just access my computer with it and use it since it is always on....well one particular computer.
I also have used teamviewer.

I also have used teamviewer. | This confirms why I worry about using such a tool.
Where's the plan for restart if the computer ever went off line?
EG power fail & no-one has access to the computer. Could make trouble with ebay accounts if on holidays etc etc.
(going off topic, sorry ) |

I have never had any issues logging into AZ using a shared IP address such as at a hotel or a bookstore. However I also agree with the notion that these IPs are more risky to use, but in my experience (3 different IPs) it has been fine.

here in UK 90% of people have a modem router not a modem and a router so it makes life easier.

Actually, a large part of our ISPs are cable modems. I think dsl is quite small part in the us, but I could be wrong. Logme in would so not work because I have to reset the modem for IP to change.
