router and dsl modem question amazon

I am not sure soo Im asking this question sorry if it is rehashed.I have dsl verizon. I also have a 5 port router. Now when directly connected verizon modem to pc. It gives my ip. Now if I hook up my router what ip will show. to amazon? ebay. the verizon ip EX:66.254.1.1 or the routers ip EX:101.106.02.01.this always stumped me. if i change the last digits in the router will they still get my actual ip or thet will get the new # i plug into it. Hope this makes sense. Do I have to get a new network card all the time when I change the routers ip.?? Thanks

Go to IPburger dot com to see your visable IP addy.

As for the last part, I'm not there yet.

Are you setting up 1 account or multiple?

Use Phd's advice and go to ipburger.com to find your public IP. That is the IP the rest of the world would see you as (including Amazon/Ebay).

A MAC address is a way to physically assign a unique address to your device. If you alter the last 2 digits of the MAC address of your router & reboot it, your modem will think (because it has a diff MAC), that this is a new device.

Your ISP then recognizes this and will release and assign a new public IP to you (this is of course assuming you have a dynamic IP from your IP).

If the above steps work, there is no reason to get a new network card. If it doesn't, this likely means you have a sticky or static IP. If you have sticky/static IP, then you need to explore other options (dongle, tethering, dial-up).

I would like to have multiple accounts but I do not want to gety linked. when I first tried it last year. My ip still showed my dsl modems Ip.even with the router in place. soo That is why I want to do it correctly and cautiously this time.

It is dynamic ip. Have been using dial all along.

As said by phd go online (ip burger) and you will get the ip that eBay or amazon will see.

I'm not certain what you meant this but:

You said you have two ways of connecting to the internet? I'm not sure why you are using two devices to connect and I am pretty certain your method of getting online is what keeps getting you linked. Can you not disconnect one for now as to keep it
Simple.

Also the advice from anonymous is a very helpful method of getting a different ip by changing your MAC address. Not to be confused with amazon tracking your mac.

You say it's dynamic but the ip
Numbers you gave as an example are not dynamic

Re: router and dsl modem question amazon

Plus dial-up would not involve a router in most likelihood - it's a direct connection from the modem in your computer via telephone wire to your phone jack in the wall...

Re: router and dsl modem question amazon

what I ment was I have been using dial up for years. Only when I had gotten my new dsl set up is when I had an account when it went south I did not mess with the hioghspeed and went dialup route. Now Im noticing that the dialup ip addresses in certain areas are not changing all that much. They are shrinking. Before the ip's were way different from one another. The dsl was dynamic. it was not static. The Ex were for the dial up.No router involved with dialup.
the question is if the router is in place do they only see the routers ip or still the ip of the dsl modem.it seems that they are seeing the dsl modem when i check the ip location.

Go to IP Burger - Track Your IP Address! they will see whatever the IP show in that page.

so then it is a static ip not dynamic. I read if you change the ip of the router then it would show. Some clarification please.I must be missing something..

It should show a new IP address if you connect the router and reboot the two units.

What you see on ipburger is what ebay and amazon will see when you login to their site.

Your ip that you see on ipburger is coming from the dsl modem, not from your router. However a router can sometimes make a dsl modem change the ip that appears on ipburger by changing the router's mac address.

If its not changing you might want to look into the modem you are using. I noticed that modems with voip wouldn't let the ip address change no matter how many times you change the router MAC address. Not sure if the same applies for modems w/built in routers. See this here: http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ip-addr...p-address.html
