Amazon debited my bank!!

Can anyone explain to me why Amazon has debited my BANK ACCOUNT? Not the debit card associated with it.. but the bank account itself.

Checked account today and it's -$400...

Thanks.

No, if you have a negative balance on an account, it shouldn't be charged to the BANK, only the debit card if you have it on file.

WRONG, amazon will get the money however they want. This is what you have agreed to in their terms. If you owe the money you have no recourse. This is why I always say move the money once your disbursement arrives and leave the amazon bank account with little funds.

The money was moved, and the bank account was at $0.. Now it's -$400!

How does your bank handle your account when something like this occurs? Does it fail paying and then go back to $0.00 minus insufficient fund fees? Or does it pay the debt and you will owe fees plus the $400.00 to keep your account in good standing?

As far as I know they take their money and I owe the bank.. Which is BS.

I have never dealt with this before, so idk.. :(

Re: Amazon debited my bank!!

A lot of banks give account holders "overdraft protection" by default. You have to OPT-OUT of this for the bank not to pay any checks or electronic debits presented if there is not enough money to cover the charges.

Banks do this because they get to charge exorbitant fees when you use it.

Of course, according to the agreement you signed with the bank, you are responsible for any and all charges they pay out, plus any fees for doing so. In other words, your bank has paid Amazon and YOU now owe the bank the $400 (plus fees, if any).

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS opt-out of overdraft protection for any accounts that you do not want to have a surprise negative balance on.

Yes, but why has my bank paid Amazon when Amazon isn't supposed to charge your BANK for a negative balance - only your credit/debit card on file?

This is PNC bank, and no, I did not attach my debit card to this account, that's what I'm confused about. What should I do?

This is just an assumption but if you didn't add a Credit Card and you only had a bank attached then I assume that they would get their money from the bank attached.

Perhaps your credit card didnt have the allowed amount available credit to be charged...? Possibly?

Pay attention to MICKEY about funds being touched by amazon.

You have not checked what you allowed amazon to do.....

Go back and READ the fine print.

amazon can take funds from what source ON FILE if needed.

Did you have a VCC & bank account attached?

It must be a lot different in the US. I cant see a UK bank account providing an unplanned overdraft of $5000. Or am I naive..?

UK bank will hit you with large overdraft fees. For each time paypal tries to extract funds, they will go on applying fees.

Of course, specific action is required in such instances.

I hear what your saying. However in some cases my bank rejects a payment of less than £100.00 if I do not have the cash in my account. lol

So what should I do? Call the bank and have them reverse the charge and then close the account?

Help!

OK... You read SECTION 2 of the participation agreement where it only talks about fees being charged to a debit or credit card. But you have to read the ENTIRE AGREEMENT. Here is where they reserve the right to go after your bank account, it is in SECTION 5, SUBSECTION K:

We reserve the right to seek reimbursement from Seller if we, in our sole discretion, decide to reimburse Buyer under the terms of the Amazon.com A-to-Z Guarantee, provide a refund to Buyer if Seller cannot promptly deliver the goods, discover erroneous or duplicate transactions, or receive a chargeback from Buyer's credit card issuer for the amount of Buyer's purchase from Seller. We may obtain reimbursement of any amounts owed by Seller to Amazon by deducting from future payments owed to Seller, reversing any credits to Seller's Account, charging against gift certificates held in Seller's GC Account (if any) that were purchased with Payment Transaction funds, charging Seller's credit card, or seeking such reimbursement from Seller by any other lawful means. You authorize us to use any or all of the foregoing methods to seek reimbursement, including the debiting of your credit card or checking account.

I'm sorry, I know this is not the answer that you WANTED, but it is REALITY.

Thank you for the information. So disputing it with my bank would be the best course of action?

Thanks.

Re: Amazon debited my bank!!

You can TRY disputing it with your bank. What they will do depend on THEIR rules and agreements with you. In my experience, many banks don't like to reverse these transactions. But maybe some will.

If you actually owe Amazon this money then I would just paid it

Was the $400 a refund given by Amazon to a customer of yours?

It was a stealth account I had dumped after I shipped product/account went under review. Now apparently the account is negative, so I'm assuming the buyer was refunded through an A-Z claim.

This is such bs..

jeffweico 03-06-2014 02:17 PM

Re: Amazon debited my bank!!

You might want to consider selling low cost items only on new accounts. That is what I do. When the account becomes more solid, then I start listing the more expensive stuff. That way, if the account is deleted, or if there are customer issues, I am not out a large sum of money.

mari 03-06-2014 06:20 PM

Re: Amazon debited my bank!!

So was the charged paid by the bank or not? Amazon can charge your account and your account will show a negative balance but you have to see if it was actually paid by the bank. If it wasn't you just have to worry about an overdraft charge.

MICKY H 03-06-2014 10:04 PM

Re: Amazon debited my bank!!

You bank won't reverse the charge after midday on the day of the debit. You can dispute the the charge after this but how, what reason. You have no grounds to dispute this as amazon have acted within there terms. Just pay the bank $400 and move on. That's life buddy. Just look forward and make the money back.

Re: Amazon debited my bank!!

I don't get it I have seen people owing amazon $2000-$3000 and never heard of any one ever reported their bank been debited. I have a account with -130, just today I got a email saying you owe us money from amazon but no debit... How can this be just one time..? Can any one else report the same experience with amazon ever, where their bank account was debited ?

The bank will either read the amazon T&S or have a good idea of what they are.

Are you sure you want the bank to turn around and start thinking FRAUD

What is even more BS is that you do not even know the source of the negative balance yet are thinking of claiming....

Find out all the info and do not assume you are in the right.

Sad fact of business.
