| AmaStealth | 03-05-2014 08:19 PM | Amazon debited my bank!! Can anyone explain to me why Amazon has debited my BANK ACCOUNT? Not the debit card associated with it.. but the bank account itself.
Checked account today and it's -$400...
Thanks. |

| AmaStealth | 03-05-2014 08:44 PM | Re: Amazon debited my bank!! No, if you have a negative balance on an account, it shouldn't be charged to the BANK, only the debit card if you have it on file. |

This is what you have agreed to in their terms. If you owe the money you have no recourse. This is why I always say move the money once your disbursement arrives and leave the amazon bank account with little funds. |

Does it fail paying and then go back to $0.00 minus insufficient fund fees? Or does it pay the debt and you will owe fees plus the $400.00 to keep your account in good standing? |

I have never dealt with this before, so idk.. :( |
| jeffweico | 03-05-2014 11:44 PM | Re: Amazon debited my bank!! A lot of banks give account holders "overdraft protection" by default. You have to OPT-OUT of this for the bank not to pay any checks or electronic debits presented if there is not enough money to cover the charges.
Banks do this because they get to charge exorbitant fees when you use it.
Of course, according to the agreement you signed with the bank, you are responsible for any and all charges they pay out, plus any fees for doing so. In other words, your bank has paid Amazon and YOU now owe the bank the $400 (plus fees, if any).
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS opt-out of overdraft protection for any accounts that you do not want to have a surprise negative balance on. |

Yes, but why has my bank paid Amazon when Amazon isn't supposed to charge your BANK for a negative balance - only your credit/debit card on file? |
| kockedoff | 03-06-2014 12:17 AM | Re: Amazon debited my bank!! I have never heard of this before.... What bank is this? And this is a US amazon account ... What credit card did u use on ur account.. Have u ever attached your debit card to this account? |

Re: Amazon debited my bank!! This is just an assumption but if you didn't add a Credit Card and you only had a bank attached then I assume that they would get their money from the bank attached. |

You have not checked what you allowed amazon to do.....
Go back and READ the fine print.
amazon can take funds from what source ON FILE if needed.
Did you have a VCC & bank account attached?
:nono: |
Re: Amazon debited my bank!! it does state in t and c that you signed up to that if funds cannot be taken from card they will attempt the linked bank |

I cant see a UK bank account providing an unplanned overdraft of $5000. Or am I naive..? |

Of course, specific action is required in such instances.

:mod: | I hear what your saying. However in some cases my bank rejects a payment of less than £100.00 if I do not have the cash in my account. lol |
