First, a warning! If you are on windows and using a VPN, read this:

https://support.nvpn.net/index.php?/...hrome-affected

This is a javascript security hole which has been around since 2013, which allows a site to discover your real IP if you use windows and either firefox or chrome. Its fixable, but be aware!

As to shielding yourself from VPN disconnects, I went the linux route because I am more familiar, but perhaps there is a similar windows work around. Ill tell you what I do and let you figure out the transcription to the windows universe.

In Linux there is a thing called iptables, which basically is just a set of routing rules. ie input from this ip range, port #, etc etc goes to here, gets dropped, etc. Same on output. Its what you would use to lock down a secure server, create routing rules for multiple ins/outs, setup tunnels, and a lot of other cool stuff. Basically, I set it up so that wlan0 (my wifi adapter, which is the only network adapter on my laptop) ONLY allows traffic on my local network (192.168.x.x), but the VPN network service (tun0) is allowed any traffic. So, Im not trying to "catch" the vpn when it drops and throw it up again fast, or even make sure it never ever drops, I simply dont allow any traffic that isnt on a vpn. This has saved me a couple times, late at night, when I fire up the browser without remembering to turn on the vpn.

does it mean that IE is okay ? only affected for firefox and chrome. or as long as we use windows, we must do something about it, no matter you using IE,firefox or chrome?

Based on the link provided, it would indicate that only Firefox and Chrome are affected....

VPNetMon works by closing the browser application as soon as the VPN disconnects. The idea is it closes the web application before you're able to load another page with a different IP address.

just checked online. shows info below
your ip address -WEBRTC detection
no leak, RTCpeerconnection not available

but it's another story for DNS
info below:
if you are now connected to a VPN and between the detected DNS you see your ISP DNS, then your system is leaking DNS requests.

is DNS leaking a problem we should worry about ?
thanks

I think your IP is only logged when you actually log on, not recorded on every page change. I may be wrong but just think of the data that would need to held if the IP is logged when every customer and seller changes page.

You want software to monitor the connection. Software that will cut ALL communications in the event of an issue.

VPNCheck Free Edition | Guavi.com

Best of all, it is free!

I would be shocked if this is true. Its trivial to collect your IP every time any page is clicked, logged in or not, and anytime you run into an amazon ad even outside of amazon.com. Amazon is a world leader in analytics, computer science, and data science. Do not make the mistake of thinking they are anywhere near as lazy, incompetent, or disorganized as paypal or ebay. They have their **** together and it would be honestly shocking and atypical for them to NOT log all of this stuff. Even if you are not logged in, they can check cookies etc and see what accounts you have ever been logged in as, even if you simply went to "crappyporn.com" and an amazon ad popped up. Want to really get freaked out? AWS hosts a majority of the internet now, which means most pages and images you ever see came from an amazon server somewhere. Its trivial for them to grab your IP, etc, and map you out quick.

VPN leak is a serious issue, but easily solved. Dont be lazy, take the extra, simple, and free step. Dont ever use your VM, user account, whatever environment is associated with your Amazon account, unless you have your VPN on.

You are wrong. AWS is the worlds largest consumer of hard drives. They have several customers who consume tens of TB every day of log files alone, and analyze them in real time (go look up adroll). LOTS of companies use them to store and analyse every buy and sell order in every stock exchange in the world. Storing your page clicks is trivial.

Hi Guys,

A lot of people call this a "kill switch".

I had a subscription to PrivateInternetAccess.com

It had the kill switch feature, but be aware that it takes a while for the app to instantiate and I had an event happen where I couldn't get any connection - even after turning it off - and had to revert to a restore point.

This only happened once.

I believe there is also DNS protection in there.
