Virtual Machine and Windows 10

Hello

I just set up windows 10 on a virtual machine and can access the web OK

I'm presuming there is no need to purchase a windows license key because i just need to access the web on my virtual machine, and have no need for all the other add on's etc

Just want to check here to make sure this is OK ?

Thanks

Re: Virtual Machine and Windows 10

You installed VMWARE Tools OK?

After 30 days if it is a genuine copy you will need to enter one, or keep reinstalling the machine with the browser.

He needs it because Windows will keep notifying him to buy a license sometime in the future and it gets annoying. But if he doesn't mind that, he can continue to work on unlicensed windows VM.

I have the black desktop as well, with the "this copy of windows is not genuine" message in the corner. And this is my primary computer. In my case it's because I cloned the hard drive of my old laptop, and Microsoft won't let you have the same personal license on two computers.

I still get updates though. I hate those things. Stupid automatic updates like to restart my computer right in the middle of me printing shipping labels.

@OP - There definitely is not any need for a Windows license on your VM. It would be a waste of money. You can do everything you need without the license.

I'm on Windows 7.

OP, why don't you stick to 7 or Xp for virtual machines? Windows10 is well known to share all possible personal details with the world and beyond...

For my Virtual Machine I only have Xp: light, fast, reliable and ...free [plenty possibilities for a free of charge installation] ;)

Agreed, why anyone would say you need a license key is beyond me. The screen just goes black, it really isn't an issue.

Why you using it then? why you wouldn't use XP and be able to have 4-5 Amazon accounts running and live at once all open I don't know.

Windows 7 and 8 are updated to send telemetry to MS as well. But honestly, it's not something to worry about. The data send is purely anonymous and only collects diagnostic statistics that's directly related to the operating system (and not you) to help Microsoft improve future products.

Again, it doesn't share "everything personal details of users", or anything even close to it. Search up "Windows 10 telemetry" on a proper tech website instead of some mainstream tabloid site to understand what it really does.

Here's a good source: Windows 10 telemetry secrets: Where, when, and why Microsoft collects your data | ZDNet

One thing I don't like about Microsoft in general..

“We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services,” Microsoft said in its recently update new terms of services agreement."

Whilst some say its files stored on their onedrive, others have said its files on your desktop computer hard drives. Either way, I don't like that attitude.

This quote isn't anything new. You can find a similar paragraph in Google and Apple's privacy statements as well. Apparently this disclosure is only applicable in case law enforcement wants to get involved with searching your computer from what I read.

Microsoft only added that section recently following a litigating in New York and was forced by the US government. If you feel like it, you can read about it in the case file: http://digitalconstitution.com/wp-co...-120820141.pdf

Cheers for the clarification - is there anything to say that Microsoft can access files on your hard drive (remotely) as and when they please? (or was this exaggerated)?
