Default items for 1st listing

I have a pretty good idea of low risk items to list, but wanted to know if these sound low risk also:

vintage items & antiques - toys, clothing, knick knacks
lite brite pegs & sheets
action figures
hats
dolls
sports cards
scrapbooking stuff - new
food - mainly snacks & candy

Also is using buy it now safe or should I start out with auctions only?

Any input is much appreciated!

The account is 3 yrs old. Never sold, only bought. What kind of listing freedom do I have?

A few of the things you listed off could be somewhat risky if they are considered valuable collectibles. For example I wouldn't start off with a valuable signed baseball card or a one-of-a-kind rare unopened vintage toy. That's the only potential problem I can see you running into. Even if Ebay allowed the listing there's a high chance you would be targeted by some type of scammer on a new seller account.

You can use auctions or BIN. In the past I've noticed I get selling limit increases faster when I do BIN's, because I get more sales.

So what about stuff like:

Old fishing tackle - new in package

Cases of non-expired candy or snacks - I find them super cheap at a liquidation store like licorice or fancy chocolate

Lego Duplos? - I have a ton

Silver coins?

Batteries?

Slot cars or train cars/engines -like ones that use track

silver coins and batteries are deemed to be high risk items.

go to the pound shop and buy a stapler or set of bic pens ,cellotape rolls and list them.
once sold 3 items then can move onto other stuff

I think they are all ok, apart from the silver coins.

I started with batteries before, and stationary, eg. pens, pet stuff, list is endless, I made a slight loss or broke even, after postage and fees.....it should be flat measurement, small item to ship at lowest cost.....eg. a sticker set is a letter size, and a pen is a large letter, and a stapler is a small packet.....

if it is cheap enough people will buy almost anything useable....people literally put in $0.01-2 plus free shipping, in to the search and will bid on anything, often to get feedback themselves, there are some sellers buying from you, trying to bump down negs on their own accs!!! I know this as Ive had them chase my feedback for them as a buyer, I checked their profile and realised why they wanted my junk and my feedback, however they are mistaken, as seller and buyer feedback shows separately if you are a seller..........

@dreb, great list - drop the food unless it's boxed and sealed.
