Removed listing

Just wondering, can eBay remove your listings even though it's a legit item
if a member reported me? LIke a DVD I bought in Walmart to re-sell and I used stock photo?

GreenBean 04-21-2009 12:13 AM

Yes. A common pratice with ebay.:pout:

SaiJin 04-21-2009 12:20 AM

Should I be worried now or just keep doing what I do? I got 2 listings removed reasoning "Copyright" which is totally bogus

GreenBean 04-21-2009 12:27 AM

Not that you should be worried but careful. This thread will give you an idea of what can happen. :peace:

Thank you for your advice.

So perhaps don't list as much for a while?

GreenBean 04-21-2009 12:40 AM

Sure, and next time take your own photo: never use a stock one or words from a website. It is possible to beat ebay when these things happen so don't despair.:peace:

SaiJin 04-21-2009 12:42 AM

Ok,... and yes.. I use stock photo from google and desc I just use the storyline found everywhere, because these are movies.
Hmm... since I don't have a scanner nor camera... how about if I change the size of the stock photo?
I mean those stock photos look just as if you scanned it yourself... only a lot nicer.

Vicvelcro 04-21-2009 12:49 AM

Don't list anything VeRO or copyright/trademark for a while. If you've been dinged twice, you might be pushing it. But do list anything you can that isn't risky. FBs and miscellaneous sales salted around will help you later.

GreenBean 04-21-2009 12:50 AM

On that item you are selling a stock photo is not a good idea. Upload from a mobile? Make it look less professional? OK, you have a right to sell your own items but you just need to present them carefully or risk a takedown.:pout:

SaiJin 04-21-2009 12:56 AM

ok. i'll keep that in mind.

only 2 got taken down and I got 1 email. So I'm going to stop selling that one title for now.
Thanks again.

How can you list on Ebay and not have a camera? That is one Major thing that is a must have for any ebay seller next to a printer. Go invest in a good digital camera around $150. The more detail pictures you have of your items the less chances it will be pick on.

gurusgrafx 04-21-2009 02:40 AM

yeah really. how do you get around without a camera on ebay??? you can get a 12mp kodak cam off of geeks.com for 100 bucks. that will way more than do enough for ebay product shots. If your going to use stock photos learn photoshop and at least change the colors around try to make it not be so obvious. I had someone come after me for using their photos one time. I was in shock that they actually checked ebay for people using their pictures..

Vicvelcro 04-21-2009 02:50 AM

I use a crappy 1 megapixel thing I bought off a crackhead outside a pawn shop. Makes a suitably crummy picture for tagging eBay. Definitely no stock photos. RED FLAG! LOOK GUYS! HEY! OVER HERE! STAMP ME WITH "MCXXX"!

I keep a 3 MP for things that absolutely NEED more detail (product serial numbers, etc) but even those listings get the sheiss pic for the gallery.

My good (10 MP) camera doesn't have a real job. It's main purpose is the doggy pr0n.

...Just Sayin'...

:behindsofa: Oh no, you too :boink:

SaiJin 04-21-2009 07:51 AM

Camera = broken -_- still looking to buy one.
So even the gallery image cannot be stock huh? sigh

Dont you have a camera phone to use? Or can you scan the item if its small enough?

Use your neighbours camera if you really cant get one now.

My friend has a 8mp camera phone so thats really good and she lets me use it for pics when she's around.

Ebay will let you use stock photo, but only in combination with your own - which makes sense as it proves that you have the item in your possession.

SaiJin 04-21-2009 10:12 AM

oooh... I didn't know that.
So I can use stock photo for the main + gallery
then put a secondary photo using my own scanned one?

SaiJin 04-21-2009 11:52 PM

Yes, but I think my feedback should say on it's own that I do have them though.
I'm more worried about people just nit picking if I take my own photo.

But yes, everything GB said makes sense. Thank you and I"ll try it.
TOnight, got 2 more taken down from the old listing -_- sigh...

Vicvelcro 04-21-2009 11:59 PM

Your feedback doesn't really count, in this regard.

Stock photos aren't convincing, to buyers. Actual photos will get you farther. If you are worried about image-theft, just watermark them before you post the listing.

SaiJin 04-24-2009 09:52 PM

Got a reply from eBay. they said:

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your ended item.

Please understand that eBay isn't in a position to judge the
authenticity of items that sellers list on the site. Your listing was
removed because it contained some questionable content.

=============

Umm... all I had was the description of the item... picture and my warranty statement.

GreenBean 04-24-2009 09:58 PM

Your listing was removed because it contained some questionable content.

The questionable content is an out for ebay. The only thing questionable content is that it was a DVD by Warners (or whatever company). If you list that again, you have to re-word & include a receipt or not list:pout:
