Imgur image hosting

Hello,

So far I have been using tinypic and did not really have any trouble with them, but recently ebay changed their policy and they will not accept any HTTP in the listings. So I had to find new hosting provider and I chose imgur.

Question: can I use the same imgur account to host the images for all of my ebay accounts or should I create separate imgur account for each ebay account?

Does imgur provide the information to which account images are associated with?

Thank you!

Re: Imgur image hosting

Is there some kind of Imgur user ID in the URL for your hosted photos? That would be the only way they could link you.

It's very unlikely you would be linked in this way, given that tons of sellers use the same photos sometimes even hosted in the same place.

No, it does not look like there is anything that could expose my identity in the URL:

Can't use imgur unfortunately. They don't like you using their hosting service on sites like ebay that make you money. In their TOS. :/

oh gosh.
Will they remove my photos sooner or later because they are on ebay?

Which image hosting is the best for ebay then?

Re: Imgur image hosting

Eventually, yes. The links will become broken. You can get away with it for a while, but may as well fix the issue at its source.

Believe photobucket wants you to pay for it. Imgur got rid of their subscriber plan.

ImgBB is a free ebay-friendly image hosting site. There are others as well.

Re: Imgur image hosting

Sorry, wasn't aware of that restriction since I don't use hosted images on eBay. I was just looking at it from a linking point of view.

I always use postimages.org. Their links are all https but I don't know how they feel about eBay.

In the communities that use such terms, blackpilled means you've been redpilled to the point of not caring anymore..

Like when you shrug off all the catastrophic stuff on the news because you know it's all BS anyway lol.

Personally I take pictures once, upload it to the listing and just keep relisting. Image is stored on eBay's side.

If you go the hosted route, just ensure you dont use the same image/links on multiple accounts. That could pose an issue.

yeah, definitely, I clean the metadata of the pics using Batch Purifier and then reupload them again, so the link would be different. But do you think I should use different image hosting providers for each stealth account?

when you are using link you have to make sure there are no -href in the begining - then it is ok. However i suggest o use pictures from gallery or stop using pictures at all in the description

Thank you for your advice. But could you please explain why should I stop using images in description? It just makes my listing more attractive this way.

Can you not upload them as listing photos, and then use the hosted URL from eBay in your description?

Or are you doing this in order to use more than the allowed 12 photos?

Re: Imgur image hosting

you can probably do stealth imgur accounts too if you need to eventually. One time my picture link was linked so many times, they cancelled one of my account. True story.

I personally would.

You want to keep things as unique as possible.

I did not even think about that, uploading them as listing photos and then using in the description, sounds like a viable idea, it's just that the photos will be duplicated then because they will stay as listing photos and as description ones so it would look a little bit unprofessional in my book.

Does ebay by any chance provide a way to upload your pictures and then use the links for your descriptions?

Re: Imgur image hosting

Seems like imgur already took some actions to prevent traffic from ebay.

So the options are imgBB and postimages?

phaz0rz 10-27-2018 08:21 AM

Re: Imgur image hosting

I guess so.

Spending $40 to setup your own site is another solid option, and you would never have to worry about dead links. $40 to Godaddy would give you all the bandwidth and storage you would probably ever need.

Plus if you host your own images you would get access to the IP and browser data of EVERYONE who views your listings. Given the traffic on eBay that would be a ton of IPs.

yeah, I was actually thinking about buying some hosting and storing photos safely there. BUT... what about my stealth accnts? I think it would be too dangerous to use the same hosting for all of the accounts, right?

hmmm... any benefit to this data? Just curious.

I would never advise using stock images, if that's what you're insinuating. That can result in a quick limitation, especially on premature accounts.

Sorry, just saw this response.

Not really any benefit unless you're in the data mining business. With eBay giving away the kind of customer info they do to sellers, you would be able to build a complete profile of your customers if you wanted to. You could get their IP from your hosting account, then associate that with their email from eBay + their shipping address. Wouldn't really benefit an ecommerce operation, but Google would probably love to have all that info.

Mayhard, if you're still around, think about this : with all the new top level domains you can buy certain domains now for $1. Then you could associate your $40 hosting account with 10 different $1 domains. Then you would have 10 different (unique) hosting URLs that you control, for about $50 annually.

Better than paying Photobucket, lol.

I see. But the only real data you're getting is location of visitors from the IP. You can usually get a gist of that from customers purchasing from you. No?

I've used imgur hosting before. It gives you unique ID for each image so you are good to go.

You would also get all the browser data of anyone who loads the image, so I guess you would gain more insight about how customers are accessing your listings. (mobile or laptop, what OS/browser they use)

You'd have a way to determine if buyers are located where they say they are, which could help prevent chargebacks/fraud.

It's definitely more useful just as a way to manage your own image hosting, but I wanted to point out the benefits that come along with hosting your own images.

I guess if you see value in such data, go ahead. I personally don't.

The whole chargeback/fraud is interesting. I guess if you're selling extremely high value goods, may be a good idea.
