Can ebay see the name on your bank account
 

I am trying to switch from a personal account to a business account, which I have done before. Entered the EIN, the business info, then it gets to the bank info page. But this time I keep getting an error "Something isn't right" with the bank info. I asked ebay chat support and they said that the name on the bank account must match the name of the business, and that it has to be a business bank account with the name of the business..etc. I don't really believe any of that. I have never had this problem before, usually it just goes through and I use the same bank that I was already using for payouts and it has no error. Are they now able to see the name on your bank account when you enter it? I do it the right way, by using the routing and account number, then I select 'business checking'. This has worked for me several times and it never had any error. Now they are telling me the name of your business has to match the name on the bank account. Like you need a bank account in the name of the business. Can they really see this? and that quickly? I thought they could not actually see the name on the bank account. That was my understanding for many years. I tried other browsers and got the same error. Any suggestions?

nobody wants to touch this one. So maybe there is no solution?
Seems like either they can see the bank information matches or they can't. And I have several accounts that never had a problem, so I think they can't. Otherwise, how did I get away with this so many times before?
Some kind of glitch probably, I guess just try again in a few days.

Maybe they also check for a match of names, but it worked for me with different names.

IF they could, then why not check the names every time? Only once in a while they check? That would be weird.

Yes they can see names.. if you verify with microdeposit

When eBay sends the microdeposits to your bank account.. you me bank sees the name that’s on your eBay account… and when eBay initiates the debit back they see the name that’s registered to the bank account

Ok, but can they see the names instantly? They never sent any microdeposits yet. Have not got that far. It won't let me add the bank, it says that something is wrong with the info.
How else would you verify anyway? Using your bank login seems like they would actually see the name instantly. What other way is there?
I don't think what you just said is correct at all. I have done many accounts and using the microdeposits is the only way to go. It never gets flagged ever doing it that way. Like I said, what other way is there?

Haha it is funny that I have everyone stumped on this one. Where are all the know-it-alls that usually answer these things?

Yeah they can also see the name instantly to the bank account holder when you input the account number… and it shows on both ways wen microdeposits are sent and received

Then what other way is there? I already asked that.
And why would they allow the mix-matched names 90% of the time but only once in a while they don't allow it? If they can see this then why do they not care most of the time? How did I do this 9 times before and they didn't care, but then the 10th time it actually bothers them? That isn't logical.

Here's your answer.

On deposit they CANNOT see the name or info of the bank account.

BUT when they WITHDRAW they CAN see the name of the bank and it shouldn't matter if you just do it once or twice.

I’m also wondering where the elders are… contacted some merchants a day or two ago and was hoping to get some sort of reply by now… but no reply. Possibly I could be considered sketchy, with my inactivity, but…. Man… I’m just so ready to get back on the bay….

Yes. That sounds right. But still don't understand why I am stuck not able to enter the bank routing/account numbers without getting this dreaded error. I had no choice but to ask support and I ended up sending them a screenshot. Don't know what will happen at this point.

Ah well I use Wood forest bank, the one that you find in Walmarts on the east coast. I currently have i think ten checking accounts with them and all of them work fine with ebay for the last year with MP. Never any issue adding them to a business account, like I said, this is one of ten accounts. I think out of these ten accounts, 7 have already been converted to business accounts. This account just hit the $600 mark so I need to convert it over to business account and add the EIN. I am just getting this error trying to add the bank. Never happened to me before. And the bank is already verified, I always just add the same bank account number that I am already using with that account when I convert to Business account, and worked every time so far. The next page after this one should ask for your previous bank, then you just add the same account number and it goes through. But it is stuck on this error. If it worked the last 7 times, I don't know why it won't work this time. I did all the same steps as always, and same bank as always. BTW Never had any issue using them as my bank for the past decade. They are actually a great bank and very helpful people, I recommend them to anyone.

To put it short- NO, they can not see name of bank account. But name must match or payouts will get rejected by bank, also if they ask verif deposits then these will not go through too.

The only reason which comes to mind why it is rejected- you maybe you are trying to add a "dummy"? If so - google what is a "check sum", because "dummy" is not just a bunch of random numbers..

I keep hearing that about the old mix-matched names issue. But that was only happening back when Paypal did deposits. The deposit would have the name on it. It would say ebay and it would say either the personal name or the business name.
With ebay MP, the deposits I get don't ever have a name attached. And not with any bank I use do I ever see a name attached to the ebay deposit.

So I don't understand why people keep saying this is an issue. Only when there was paypal did the deposits show the name. The new MP payments never show the name. It says ebay and some other numbers and stuff. But I don't think the bank sees the name of the ebay account. Not since MP started.

You have 7 bank accounts with Woodforest? I'm confused as to why you cannot create an account with the business name ebay has on file for you? Are you doing fly-by-night type sh!t on eBay, or are you an actual business?

Must be different rules on different sites, but my bank rejected eb payouts when names missmached. It even did not show up any notifications, money just came back to ebay and ebay said that it been rejected by bank. Tried several times on different accounts. So updated name to match and payouts started to arrive with no problem.
However this must be a bank option for EB only because i asked friends to do a few transfers with wrong name and they all arrived.

If you're doing managed payments with a business account, just setup business bank accounts with mercury.com....extremely simple and easy, and their wire transfers/ACH transfers are free. Also, if you have multiple bank accounts with them you can link them together and easily move money between them. I love that bank, used them for years

EDIT: Just be aware you can't do mismatch name deposits with them since its an online based bank. Just create a business per ebay account and keep it legit, it keeps everything simple
