yep here in canada we have the most expensive cell phone plan of any modern nation.
try nextiva.com for getting a voip number just do a trial and cancel it.

after a few tries you ebay does get locked down if you cannot verify through phone.

Ha marysman78 - it's partly because of the population economics (less people) and the setup of networks - still would be cool to get cheaper.
