Default Login to PP from Cuba - my experience

Hi all,

I made a test and logged in to paypal from Cuba. hehe... Limited instantaniously. Recovered my account but then here is the note:

"Future logins from Cuba will result in the closure of your account."

I told PP I was on vacation and wanted to view my account. Heck, I am canadian and I am allowed to go to Cuba. I know, PP is USA company and they don't like this. Anyways just for your information.

Thank you for your information. This was a good tip. But don't you all find is utterly ridicules that a company which holds your money tells you, they will close your account if you log in from another country. I dunno about you but if this was my bank I would have sued them. It would have been all over my local news. I think PayPal is one of the most ridiculous scumbags companies in a long time. And once again I always wonder to myself HOW ON EARTH this company is still operating. I guess the only reason is because they can afford to fight back lawsuits against them?

Paypal are within their rights under US law.

It is forbidden to trade with Cuba.....

Make of that whatever you want.

Tough for the OP

Issue is paypal is an US based company and has to go along with the embargo.

Even US credit cards, held by non US citizens have been reported as being declined because of indirect links ...tourists trying to have a holiday in Cuba & paying for accomodation

paypal limited a UK charity for a grand total of $80.83 because of ties to Cuba...

VIVA CUBA!!!

Its not just cuba, I have had friends who have contacted paypal, they told paypal they where traveling to Western Europe and paypal still limited them the first time they logged into their paypal to check on their funds. One of them had to ditch their account, wait 180 days because it wasnt under his name. The rest supplied all of the paper work requested by paypal.

After all of that, the paypal accounts where fine until they logged into them again and limited again. The process started entirely again, all accounts where fine. After all of that they had enough of paypal and started to withdraw all funds from paypal, and once again, limited and closed down.

When they all got back they filed a lawsuit with paypal and won their case. They received all funds back, interest, and funds for the lawyers they hired.

So the moral of the story is, when ever you travel overseas, never check your paypal account or dont expect to use your paypal account overseas. Withdraw all funds in paypal in your home country first, wait until it hits your bank account, then go travel where ever you want.

That's not the case for everyone. I had a PayPal/eBay account I registered in Thailand and ran it successfully for 2 years here in Spain. Before I left Thailand I rang them told them I was travelling and never had a problem.

It might have worked for you and lots of other people but I would never do it myself if I can.

Many people use their PP accounts overseas without dramas. It very much depends on a number of variables.

eBay only really seem to care about IP at registration time in my experience... if I make a UK account from my London address and then log into it from Australia some time later, I will not have a problem. If I made that account from Australia however, I can expect MC081 suspensions. PayPal are another story entirely however... they just seem to limit me when I receive/withdraw money, if I log in from another country. If I don't use the account for money then it's fine.

@rsot
I called them and told them I was on vacation and checking my activities which is what I wanted to do. They said ok, your account will be good to go in a couple of days. But I knew in my "heart" something was going to happen. I wanted to test it. This account is for buying so I was not in a rush to get it back working. My girlfriend is Cuban so off course I would like to run some business from there, will have to go VPN to do so.

I would be more worried about that Cuban girlfriend then with Paypal, lol. Paypal only keeps your money for 180 days, they keep your money for ever. They sure are firecrackers waiting to be set off.
