US-CAD BANK account for NEw Stealth Account

Hi everyone -

Basically I just acquired a new stealth account (I am in Canada) and need to attach a US bank account to it - I am reading and I see RBC and TD

I just opened a tangerine CAD any luck anyone else?

*** DO I need a US Account (CAD based) or can I use a CAD account

For CAD stealth pp - easiest to attach CAD currency account.

USD is tougher for NEW account

Oh US account - then you need US-based account - RBC has US accounts that can be "customized" for PP entry....few posts exist on how to do so

Makes no difference.
RBC offers US based bank accounts which are quite easy to obtain and are linked via online banking between the US and the CAD parts which makes it quite simple to control transfer of your funds from South to North.
Also, crossing the border to open accounts is quite simple. Contact me for more details if youre interested in this option.

You need the RBC USD eSavings account.
This is the only account that can be added onto US paypals using an alternative bank account number formatting.

I think I read you need to have a regular CAD account to open a RBC USD account>?

Not necessarily true. The Esavings USD account is an option but by no means is it the only option or the simplest option.
RBC has a US branch of their operations based directly in the US (called centura if Im not mistaken) and it is a simple matter to open an actual US bank account (9 digit routing number) with them through RBC canada. I myself have one checking and 4 savings opened this way within Canada and the whole thing took very little effort. Just go into your branch and talk to a banker about your options to open such an account.

It is most likely the same product offered by most other banks - a Canadian bank account denominated in US dollars and as such of little use. Call them to verify the details before you get excited about it.
What you need is an actual US based bank account with the 9 digit routing number.

I have not tried Tangerine - it used to be ING Direct and they were a HASSLE for stealth name usage

A lot of banks and credit unions offer USD accounts, but you can't have a US based direct deposit with a lot of them. Tangerine is one I'd avoid. Like rsot said, lots of problems with their predecessor.

Will try RBC - in branch - I hope I dont have to open a reg account with them

I use BMO-Harris bank - you can register with them with documents in the mail/e-mail for usd-based bank.

Yes I believe I tried opening one because when I do my banking its there ?

Only concern I have is that my regular PP is attached to that BMO CAD account - dont want it to be linked?

As long as they don't have the same account number they will not be linked.

you can also use td bank in US
takes 30minutes on the phone .they just need standard id and all like bmo harris and theyll mail everything to you in canada.also its a dollar or less to transfer funds between the us baed td and your td canada trust account in canada
