Bitcoin Gold Launch Set for Sunday 7 PM UTC, 2 PM ET, 11AM PT
 

The official announcement was made yesterday around 19:00 UTC, which set off a buying surge of more than 50% of bitcoin cash(BCC/BCH) and bitcoin gold futures(BTG) and a small drop in bitcoin(BTC) prices as people moved some of their holdings to the competing cryptocurrencies.

Now the question is how will this affect the prices of BCH, BTC, BTG, and other alts in the next day and a half? Supposedly the drop in BTC has already accounted for the bitcoin gold future price at launch.

Why would anyone hold alts aside from pure speculation when all the gains and losses are set to be made on these big three coins?

If you look at the historical data on bitcoin cash from the end of July, you'll notice an initial drop during the selloff and then a surge before stabilizing. The same thing happened with the bitcoin gold futures last month. But now what happens when the futures become the present bitcoin gold? I would say to buy bitcoin gold now if you can as it could get over $1000 very quickly. Note that this is just speculation. It could also drop under $100(not likely). But bitcoin cash and bitcoin could go down as bitcoin gold goes up, so you can adjust your strategy accordingly.

From a mining prospective this didn't start off well. Mining was suppose to start at 2pm EST. A test nest was set up to get miners dialed in a head of time.

Bitcoin Gold was pre-mined by the dev's to block 499407. By 3pm EST they were only to block 493826. By 9pm EST there were still 1060 blocks left.

The miners that were able to mine were mining for free only contributing their hash to the dev's pre-mine

It took hours after that for pools to sync to the BTG chain.

Mining finely started around 10pm EST

I gave up waiting by 3pm and kept mining ETH. So many people moved from ETH to try and mine BTG that it brought the difficulty down.

Within 24hrs BTG was less profitable to mine at current price and a lot of people switched to something else.
