You think BTC will go all the way down to 8k?!? Only at 11k now...

Re: $8k - great entry point for BTC

It would... However, traders will snap it up at that prices real quick. I bet they are buying as we speak while others with fear are selling...

Lets see how long this "dip" lasts or is it a correction.

8k is the 200 day moving average. We will be lucky if it gets that low. My magic 8 ball says not a chance in hell. But who knows.

Bad News? You believe what they say? Cardano's Charles Hoskinson says some news is suppose to come out Friday that will really shake things up...

I think China's just throwing FUD out there to get back in the game at a low price.

Any of you guys hear about Bitconnect? Ponzi has collapsed.

BTC is down $3k in 24 hours. $1k of which was in the past hour. I bet Coinbase won't let me sell off even if I wanted to.

Every single time prices have dropped coinbase has had issues preventing me for selling....

They are crooks!

Re: $8k - great entry point for BTC

^^They absolutely are. They're just straight enough to not be called a scam but their practices are seriously shady. If insider trading laws applied to crypto all of Coinbase would be in jail.

They will probably allow buys right now (since the dip is so serious and buy orders are the only thing that will keep it from dipping further) but I'd bet you can't sell.

Down another $400 in the past hour. BTC will be $6k or less by the end of today.

I want to be like some of you and believe this is just a "dip" but there are too many factors suggesting this is crash and not a dip.

I watch mostly Stock Market and if this was going on in the S&P this would be a crash or major correction. However, crypto is a different beast all together. All these previous trends and stats mean nothing.

I still do believe this technology is too good to ignore or be gone forever.

On the one day candle chart the 200 day MA is around 8k. There will be strong support there. I it goes below that... Then I might start worrying a little... Maybe...

The way I see it is that is had a hockey stick moment late 2017.

Now it's coming back to reality.

What's reality? Well I would say roughly $10k/btc, but given more bad press today it will push it further down.

With a recession looming, I just cannot see something like bitcoin disappearing off the face of the earth.

You could power 12 American households for one full day with the amount of electricity it takes to complete a single BTC transaction. Decentralized? To an extent, but it's terribly inefficient.

It's beginning to rally, £1500+ in the last 3 hours.

I bought the dip, but not feeling smug just yet.

You're right! :smash:

But then, I read an article which went into detail about the costs of running a centralised banking system.

It doesn't seem so bad then. ;)

Source?

If you compare the amount of electricity used by the Visa card processing network to that used by BTC, Visa's use won't even show up on the chart.

https://s14.postimg.org/5icwcitj5/Untitled.png

Considering that nearly the entire planet runs off of the debt-based central banking system I would expect it to consume a fair amount of energy. Bitcoin is a novelty which can barely be used for anything, yet the Bitcoin system consumes more electricity daily than over 200 different countries. No way the central banking system comes close, plus Fiat currency is a commodity and is far from useless.

EDIT: I think it's also worth noting that all crypto's revolve around the central Fiat currency system they claim to be disrupting. The central banking system gives us the only thing we know as real currency. Real currency has to be spent regardless of how you initially get into crypto.

Anyway, going back to how BTC is depleting natural resources at an unprecedented rate. Say a Bitcoin buyer chooses to purchase 1 BTC. The Visa network uses maybe a total of 10 Watts to complete their side of the transaction. After that the BTC network consumes hundreds of megawatts to complete their side of the transaction. There's no comparison in terms of efficiency.

A lot of the people who were crying about the damage we're doing to the environment ten years ago are now some of BTC's strongest supporters. It's like everyone is willing to turn a blind eye to the negative aspects of crypto in order to hopefully get rich quick. I have a decent crypto portfolio - I'm far from a "no-coiner" - but at the same time I don't put blind faith into anything.

I can't find the source... but here's a close article - https://www.bitsonline.com/bitcoin-v...s-uses-energy/

You're comparing Bitcoin to Visa. You've omitted every other aspect of a centralised banking system. Remember banks too have a huge network of servers etc. (all of which is consuming electricity).

Look - Bitcoin uses a lot of electricity, no doubt about it. Regardless of whether its more or less than the existing system we have for fiat, the fact is it's a lot. But I feel the technology used to mine/process BTC (given the heat it's been getting) will start to find ways to make it more environmentally efficient.

As for your point about use case of bitcoin, that's a tangent and open for debate. I treat it as a commodity (store of value), and I have done from the very first day I invested in it about a year ago.

I don't think bitcoin is perfect, but the fact that there's so much room for improvement, to me that indicates room for rise in value.

Given that the price is currently hovering around $6200 your post makes no sense.
What was the point of reviving a 6 months old dead thread for this...?
