Madoff is a big shot,founder of NASDAQ,owned his own brokerage business,yachts and castles in France,second home in Florida.
People trust him as he offered 12-13% return!
Few have the resources to find out he is a fraudster,one is a French bank ,after meeting with Madoff,went back to France and use computer modeling to do the same and decide not to do business with him,another one is a competitor from Massachusetts,he hired MIT expert to do the same and cant get the same result,filed a complaint with SEC and heard nothing,filed again and was told to come to NYC to file a case which he did not.
Rest are individuals just forked over their life time savings to Madoff.
The lawyer who is appointed by the court to recover as much as possible from Madoff is the same working on the FTX scandal,some of MADOFF investors who have sold their holdings were asked to return their gains as Madoff never made those trades,so there is no profit ! | A lot of people turned a blind eye and a lot of people trusted him without seeing any of the trade sheets.
Most people lost their money because they saw the ROI and didnt ask any other questions.
