Any credible way to find real manufacturers in China?
 

I am looking for a screen protectors manufacturer, but Alibaba doesn't seem like the place to go to!


Any suggestions on how to find real factories?

Ali has plenty of real factories. My primary supplier manufactures screen protectors and we met on Ali years ago. If you aren't happy with Ali the next best option is traveling to China with a basic understanding of Mandarin.

From what I understood, most factories don't get involved in marketing and they sell directly to trading companies. Do you think that's correct?

No, not entirely. It's true that there are tons of trading companies on there but there are also a lot of manufacturers. Almost all of the real factories on there also act as trading companies by sourcing products for customers they don't make themselves, and helping to consolidate shipments. That's how it is with our main supplier. They manufacture about 75% of what we buy and they source the rest from nearby factories.

It's been a while since I've been there but I'm pretty sure you can search for factories only. Lots of trading companies will pose as manufacturers. You've just got to talk to each supplier and find out which ones are actually making their own stuff.

A super hot and cheap to produce product like screen protectors surely has a few manufacturers on there.. you just have to hunt them down.

Hey man, it still works believe it or not. Screen protectors can be shipped for $.50 or whatever a stamp costs now.

I got 1000 for iPhone 8 when it was new. Barely made anything on small retail orders but turned a slight profit on a few larger orders. Regardless - was still able to get rid of them all in less than a month.

Oh, I know I can get rid of them. But making a profit is nearly non-existent.

I use them just to help pad the account with transactions and feedback. Which, I suspect that's what a lot of guys are doing.

Yes very slim profit margin so it relies heavily on volume...or gullible customers who overpay hah

If you're just using the products to pad your account, And even if you're looking for a real supplier, I still think alibaba is a good source.

you'll just have to comb through the list and take time picking a seller that you like.

DHgate is a lot of middle men and for smaller MQOs.

We are in China. We source from the same suppliers who sell on Alibaba, AliExpress and eBay. They are often the same factories or wholesale entities just selling at different price levels depending on the channels in question. We can often find better prices than quoted on the above platforms, because we get them through the same channels that Chinese retailers purchase through, rather than the channels above which are targeted at foreigners and where they have no qualms about giving the "foreigner discount" (i.e. an inflated price, even at wholesale)

The prices I am getting for screen protectors range between 0.15 and 0.30 $

Is this range normal in your opinions?

Exactly... and if you need any particular new product, you can just ask them and see if they can source it for you.

It's all about networking with the right people.

Dropshipping is basically what it says on the tin. Someone purchases from you, and you send it to them by purchasing from elsewhere, whilst making a cut for yourself along the way.

How you do it doesn't matter. Whether you're doing it via dhgate, or Amazon, or even ebay to ebay... the concept is all the same.

made-in-china.com is a good resource. We've used them personally.
You can connect directly with the supplier via chat/email.

If you want to source from Chinese websites where Chinese do, first you need to have a Chinese bank account. Otherwise forget it!

Get a plane kit and go! Find a bunch of people on Alibaba or wherever and they'll will love it. You can negotiate a better rate in person I believe as well.

If you know Chinese,1688.com is a good choice.
1688 is Alibaba's Chinese website.You can find factories or big dealers.More cost-effective.
You can even buy one product instead of wholesale.
And 1688 is more secure and convenient, you will hardly encounter cheaters

You list an item for sale,but you dont have the merchandise,when someone places an order,you take his money and place an order with some vendor and ask that vendor to ship to his address .
The trick is who is the vendor,if it is another retailer like you(amzn,wmt,tgt) then you are doing retail arbitrage and Ebay will shut down your account.
dropshipping from a wholesaler,distributor,manufacturer is acceptable business practice,it is not possible for a retailer to stock every design,color or size,

We never had a bad experience with alibaba even back in the days there was no amazon for us for local e-commerce business. Just its a little bit tricky to communicate with someone who can't speak proper English but after a while, you are getting used to it. You can see supplier's years and points so you can decide trusted sellers.

manufacturers will usually not entertain you if you talking about low MOQ

in alibaba many suppliers are trading companies. many manufacturers don't show in alibaba. you can search in chinese website to find the real manufacturers. in china, we use baidu to search products , you will find many suppliers and then make phone calls to compare which one is manufacturers.

am chinese, sometimes we use ali, sometimes we use other search tools. many tools in china. but first time you need know chinese. otherwise you cannot search or you can not compare .
ali is a tools mainly to foreign. others tools you need to learn chinese .
that's important. or you can find a chinese partner to work togather.

if you really want to know,attend tradeshows and talk to them, face to face and review their product lines and get a copy of their catalogue .
These vendors are either manufacturers or wholesale distributors.
Attending tradeshows are not cheap for the vendors,small companies which may not attend overseas tradeshows will attend one near by,I found small companies in Frankfurt Germany,they have been in business for many years and make some delightful products you dont find them overseas unless it is in an ethnc fair or museum.
