Has Anyone Received an Alibaba Order

I stumbled upon alibaba by mistake last night. I was thinking of ordering some pillow pets since my pillow pets is no longer taking applications for wholesale account until January 2011.

Are the products on alibaba less than authentic? Has anyone received an order? Has anyone that has paid via WU received thir order?

Sorry for all the questions but I am very curious.:ranger:

rsot 09-14-2010 11:05 AM

Nice thread to start - I was looking at getting some articles for personal use but this whole WU, Money Gram or bank transfer payment options = too fishy for me.

Be VERY Careful on AliBaba (Home of the 40 Thieves),,,,

You can find some of the BEST Deals/Products/Manufactures and Distributors There,,,,

You will also Run into More Scams, Scamartists, and Thieves,,,than you have Sand on a Beach,,,

i have done some orders from there dont do western union or money gram
always use paypal because u dont know if any problems with products and sometimes they wont exchange . at least with paypal u have some protection being the buyer ....

The fact is, any item that is copyrighted or trademarked cannot legally be imported into the USA unless you have the permission of the copyright or trademark owner. Which you will never get.

Alibaba is a good source of non-branded items, but like Slapped pointed out, there are a lot of scam artists operating on the site. And all of the US Movie and TV show DVD's, Louis Vuitton handbags, Rolex watches, etc. are counterfeits. I don't know the wholesale price for a real Rolex watch, but I can guarantee you it is NOT $75.

Having said that, people DO buy stuff from there, and much of it does make it through to you. But any copyrighted or trademarked items that are inspected by US Customs will be seized. If you try to import a large enough quantity, law enfoircement may want to have a few words with you.

China is not going to sell a product for a fraction of the price and be real. You can just forget that silly dream

If its a brand name product, at a wicked price, It will be a knock off

I ordered some parts off there. They do whatever they can to get you off the site [The few I dealt with did]. I dont really care to do business with anything that has no chargeback like WU. And in my few experiences the pricing was all out to lunch with shipping. Items were marked as free shipping and were far from it. It seemed they were more interested in getting my email and coming at me that way.

But again, my personal experience is pretty limited. But when a big company only takes Western union I'm not cool with that. I assume they dont want chargebacks if you lose all your knock offs. And makes sense. But if I get a crate of crap I want to be able to do a chargeback if they wont play fair. With WU they dont even need to send you anything.

mememe1972 09-14-2010 11:29 PM

you should only use the Aliexpress because they use escrow such as dhgate. Dont ever send western union and never use voguebagworld they will rip you off

jeffweico 09-14-2010 11:52 PM

I would NEVER send a seller money via Western Union. HOWEVER - I do trust the DHgate e-wallet. Never had a problem. Never had more than $2k in it, though.

Aliexpress is even easier, as their payment system has no issues like DHgate's does.

teedon 09-15-2010 05:16 AM

just go with paypal as you do not know this supplier before.

rsot 09-15-2010 09:42 AM

One step above Paypal is to use the credit card option. I like the credit card protection. Hell I made one personal purchase othetr day from dhgate and that paypal got limited...asking for seller's invoice and nonsense ha - too funny

ghostboy 09-15-2010 11:34 AM

I'd stay away from Alibaba as I got burned for $250 last month. I used WU and i knew better but everything looked legit.Although $250 isnt that big of a loss. Thank GOD I only placed a small order. My advise ....Stay away from alibaba

pod 09-15-2010 11:36 AM

well, stay away from WU would be better advice. As noted above Aliexpress is a branch of them and seller does not get paid until you receive and release payment

rsot 09-15-2010 11:38 AM

Sorry to hear that ghostboy.

ghostboy 09-15-2010 12:21 PM

its one of those mistakes you make late at nite. I knew it was a gamble and a little too good to be true but.... i took a chance and lost. I knew better but.....

rsot 09-15-2010 01:27 PM

Live and learn - you make it all back in the long run with patience and planning...

slapped 09-15-2010 08:07 PM

There is NOTHING Really wrong with Alibaba,,,I Know what I Myself have Said about it,,,,,Sure there are Thieves,,,ScamArtists,,,,and ALL Sorts of LowLives there,,,But,,Honestly,,,There EVERYWHERE,,,Take a GOOD Look Around,,,The Difference is that on other Sites they Just Know how to Hide Better,,,

The TRUTH is that if you as a Potential Buyer Exercise Good,,,,SOLID,,,Common Sense,,,and SMART Judgement,,,You will NEVER Become a Victim of one of these Guys

99 times out of 100,,,it is the Very Competetive Aggressiveness within OURSELVES that Allows Potential Buyers to make VERY Stupid decisions,,,,,,Thinking that They are getting a "Deal",,,,,Only to be turned into another VICTIM

Thankful 09-20-2010 05:49 AM

Don't forget money can be made buying and selling no brand products at good competitive prices, I would recommend using Aliexpress look around for a product you think will sell and then check the person selling it, by check I mean read his feedback (If any) if he has none or low negative stay well clear, once you being doing it for long enough you start getting the feel of things, sometimes gut instincts, I've never been scammed I've been using aliexpress for some time now and will continue in a safe manner, as much I hate Paypal/Ebay connection, I would highly recommend Paypal with sites like that simply because it's safer and you can get your money back if any problems occur, good luck.

rsot 09-20-2010 10:53 AM

Always true Slapped. Good to hear tanxful.

Paypal won't protect you for your off-ebay purchases in general. That's why I prefer credit card option.

arshavin 10-02-2010 07:20 PM

"up to scratch",,,,,,,,,,,I Like That

Yea,,, their Dispute Process is Just about the same as DH Gates,,,,

kirkie 10-02-2010 09:03 PM

I have bought a few items through alibaba and always had them arrive.

Just research the companys as there are alot of scammers on there, also read the forums :)

arshavin 10-04-2010 06:48 AM

I have never had a dispute on DHGATE either. Say if goods arrive from aliexpress and they are not as described i can get my money back no problem?

The seller has 16 positive feedbacks which must count for something but the item costs alot and takes up a big amount of my funds. I asked the seller if i could halve the order but the price per piece then goes through the roof.

I have Never been through the Process My self,,,,,But friends of mine who have ALL got there Money back,,,It does take TIME Though,,,You Must be prepared to wait at LEAST a Month before getting a Refund,,,But a Month is NOT uncommon,,,Most resolution Processes take about that long,,,

arshavin 10-04-2010 10:21 AM

Thanks slapped

Kratosl1080 10-04-2010 09:01 PM

Alibaba is a good source of items...but NEVER do WU/wire money unless you have a long time relationship with the seller.

Always start with PAYPAL. if they dont want to accept PAYPAL, move on, most likely they are scammers or you will get bad quality products.

Order small packages and tell them to break them down to smaller packages if they are big and send them to different address if you can...Dont put your real name on the orders if you are ordering VERO items.......

Done bussiness with few sellers from ALIBABA and have had no problems so far....

arshavin 10-05-2010 06:31 AM

The only paypal accounts i have are stealth accounts which i need for ebay. If i use them on these sites i'm putting them at risk. I'm afraid i'm gonna have to pay with debit card.

qpecmultitech 10-13-2010 08:42 AM

Tiresome!

I can tell you how terrible it is to order from Aliexpress. Its a scam site, they wrongly sent my order just not the first time. I am really tired of these guys. Never on time, quality is still worse. Better try Chinabuye, i am really satisfied with them. You can get variety, designs and reliable goods here. And above all shipping is absolutely free, no hazzels unlike Aliexpress.

holymoly 12-04-2010 05:37 PM

Alibaba is great for the prices if you do the DUE DILIGENCE. Don't know what that means...you shouldn't be gettin into alibaba then.

STAY AWAY!

I am about to have to open a dispute with a lost package on alibaba,
It is from a long time seller i have been using,
I ordered 5 packages from them dating back to 11-28-10 many before that,
The 11-28-10 Despatch from Sorting Center since 12-1-2010 in China,
My supplier has called and no word on what happened to it,
I have gotten the rest of my 4 other orders after that already,
The last one is sitting in customs since yesterday morning,
Received another ems one yesterday as well,
All them last 4 where ordered 12-3-10 and 12-8-10 range or later,
I only have 5 days left to open a dispute and get my money back,
Just wont count on the supplier being nice and paying me back or replacing it,
Anyone else had to open a dispute of recent with alibaba,
I am sure it will go all good for me,
Thanks

I have been working with sellers on Alibaba.com for about 2 months now. What I have learned is the feedback system is VERY important. I always arrange my results by feedback first. I have one supplier that I can trust. He has 2000+ feedback and is at about 98% feedback. Never ship with anything but UPS and/or DHL. Anything else will get caught up in customs and take 2, 3, or more weeks to arrive. Also, if anything you buy has batteries like cellphones, tablet pcs, laptops, etc. ship with DHL. These are just some of the things I have found.

I would agree with you 100%! Aliexpress is great. They have the feedback system that is easy to read, much more user friendly, and the escrow is very important. Suppliers know that they must send exactly what you ordered or they aren't getting their money. Also, I would recommend buying from Gold Suppliers who have a large amount of POSITIVE feedback. Never use anything but PayPal or a prepaid credit card. I use Walmart MoneyCard.

bali 05-20-2011 04:19 AM

i ever bought from alibaba.com 2 times from hongkong. all deals shipped to me :)
it's iphone and ipod accessories.
But i use paypal :pop2: its safe me :amen::hail:

2kmagic 05-20-2011 06:46 AM

Please what ever you do and other people have stated above, DO NOT use WU, or BT because if something go wrong, you'll loose.

I was almost a victim 6 yrs ago for $5000 when i did a bank transfer to complete a transaction for laptops and ipods...etc. The good thing is i had this bad feeling a day after that and i contacted my bank " BA " to put a hold on the money. The money had to be reversed from the other bank after 2 week. coming to find out that it was all a scam . Meanwhile, all these time i had people on my as* looking for their money back.

NOT A GOOD FEELING

So i will say, if you have a credit card use it , but best to use PP.

But since then, i have never had that problem with alibaba... no WU, BT,..

But probably want to to use Aliexpress to do less quantity wholesale. many payment option.
As for the brand item being " authentic " .. the answer is NO, it's either OEM or COPY...

..........i can't believe i just type all that.........am tired.....just my 2 cents

XHIBIT 06-13-2011 05:42 AM

When I deal with anyone from Alibaba I always exchange MSN addresses and discuss it via messenger and have them link me to their websites. Of they dont have their own website its a good chance they are a scam. If they do, look to see if they accept Paypal.

From there, its smart to ask for a reduced price on an individual sample order.
Example...if they are selling shoelaces that cost 2.00, to insure your longterm business ask for a sample order with reduced cost of 1.00

Some wont go for it, other will.

This is also a good way to see how fast their couriers are since most Alibaba are from China.
My order/item received turnaround was normally 5 days and that includes customs. But there was a price for shipping so expect it.

But NEVER pay thru any other means other than Paypal.

Gamefreak 06-17-2011 02:02 AM

NO protection with paypal so everyone saying use paypal use paypal good luck. Your better off using escrow

fineart 06-17-2011 02:33 AM

Only order from stores in Aliexpress. It is an escro that guarantees you get your merchandise.Trust me I am a member there reputation or points mean nothing.
Aliexpress only:bump:

spreadthemoney 06-17-2011 08:41 PM

CN suppliers alibaba

I spent thousands on counterfeit items from China. Hundreds of shoes. I didn't even know they were counterfeit. I was like "Wow, these sure are cheap." Ordered all from cn suppliers from alibaba.

Only got 4 or 5 packages caught in customs. Nothing too much, the biggest package was about 200 pairs.

Only got "scammed" once or twice, once for $3000 i sent western union. And another time for a couple hundred bucks.

Other than that I was satisfied with my experience with the CN on alibaba.

It is really a hit N miss. Trial and Error.

The fact is, everyone is after your money. Alibaba, Google, PayPal, the CC companies, the customs brokers, whoever. Everyone wants to take your money.

Knowing that, if you can still conduct business, then you don't need to worry.

davevjr 06-23-2011 06:04 PM

Alibaba.com

i have used their sister site succesfuly aliexpress.com. it uses an escrow service also some people on alibaba.com accept escrow. those ones are trustworthy.

misterjack 06-24-2011 11:28 PM

Just started on Aliexpress, all done through Escrow and all bar one package delivered very quickly. I think it's a good way to start working with suppliers, and then from there build up a relationship with them.

unkown5454 06-25-2011 10:44 PM

Alibaba was on CNBC this month. Go for it.
