| | | clapclap | 06-02-2012 02:38 PM | Carbooting in the UK Your Finds I thought i would start a thread on Carbooting in the UK as i earn Approx 100
to 200 pounds a week from them. So there must be people on here doing the same.
I went to my local carboot today and spent 45 and i will make over 150.
I hope someone else is takig advantage of this easy money maker |
| GreenBean | 06-02-2012 06:27 PM | Great way to source goods.
Amazing what can turn up & what it can lead to from making contact with people who sell at them.
Nice one :thumb: |
| GrannyT | 06-02-2012 06:34 PM | One of my best ever suppliers actually came from a car boot sale. We still trade after all these years
:ranger: |
| Imakemoney | 06-02-2012 06:54 PM | I've never got into the car boot thing, think it may be something to do with a lot taking place in the mornings (or the good bits being bought up straight away) ....& i do like my lie ins on the weekends.
I may give it a try sometime though :) |
| Elijah | 06-02-2012 06:57 PM | I live right in the middle of London and have never been able to find any "real" carboot sales, so never bothered. I did see one at the end of Bethnal Green Rd between Shoreditch and the city but that is it, and the selection wasn't great. |
| GreenBean | 06-02-2012 07:10 PM | @Elijah
Years back car-booting was better in that area.
Its popularity made its effectiveness lower. :pout: |
| yotano211 | 06-03-2012 01:40 AM | I was thinking the same thing. "carboot sale" I thought the city was selling cars that still had the boot on. The owners weren't paying the boot fine so the city would auction it out.
dam brits and their hard language. I still love your accents though. |
| bigbill | 06-03-2012 05:43 AM | i prefer general auctions in the UK!!! There are loads of them about and they sell a lot of stuff from house clearances! You can literally make 100%+ on EVERYTHING bought at these, I worked at one one summer and made more money buying a few things a week there and selling them on ebay than actually working there! |

together the Carboots (Yard Sales for the Yanks) and General auctions you
can make some serious money and there is not much work involved so i
believe it is well worth getting out of bed for. As they say the early bird
catches.....
Thanks for the input guys. |
| clapclap | 06-03-2012 06:06 AM | Sorry for the double post my computer was playing up |
| bigbill | 06-03-2012 06:11 AM | Definitely, I don't have enough time now to get down to these...but if I didn't know where to start I would be straight down these auctions. You can buy full cardboard boxes full of bric a brac/general household items for £1-2 and can EASILY turn them into £20-50 on ebay...just takes a lot of time! |
| GreenBean | 06-03-2012 06:23 AM | :thumb: All good ways to make money. |

| J1mgg | 06-07-2012 10:08 AM | Been meaning to go to the local one in my area(Edinburgh) for a while to see what they sell and if i could sell my item there and make it worth my while. Still at the start and looking for more items to sell.
When it comes to buying i wouldnt have a clue what to buy though. How do you find out about local auctions in the UK, as I only know about 1 and it is on the west coast of scotland? |
| Killuminati | 06-07-2012 12:39 PM | I have been going carboot sales for some time now and i find that waking up so early in the morning to get there is well worth it you can find great bargains |

Also try your local paper and surrounding local papers as there is a local
paper just 10 miles away from my house that is full of auctions that are right
on my door step.
Spread your search and you will find alot |

Agree 1000%
Some shopping centres have community notice boards. Check them out.
You just need to LOOK. Sometimes word of mouth offers chances. |

Seems you share my experience . . .
Here in north Wales car boot sales seem to be as popular as chickens teeth.
I get the impression car boot sales have had their day . . . |
| Elijah | 06-10-2012 05:56 AM | How easy is it to find Jaffa Cakes in the US? |
You can't buy Jaffa Cakes in the US, we gotta import them from UK. |
| moneyhustler88 | 06-10-2012 08:57 PM | wow i didnt know that marysman that sucks |
| newjerseymax | 06-10-2012 10:06 PM | It seems like everything I just read was my language, but have no clue what was said...:noidea: |
@MoneyHustler, GTB is suppose to start slanging them to us Americans and Canadians.
@Newjerseymax, Yeah it's English alright but it takes time to master the art of British Slang. I've watched countless hours of BBC America and a few shows just to catch a few, after several hours my eye started twitching from having no clue!
I do love Gordon Ramsey F-Word, it's a more realistic view of the dude. |
| clapclap | 06-14-2012 03:04 PM | No bargains at the carboots this weekend. The great british weather has seen to that  |
| johnnyleeds | 06-18-2012 12:08 PM | I do the same as you ClapClap, I've bought - and sometimes sold at car boot sales all over Yorkshire since the early 90's. There are some great car boot sales around Leeds and on a Sunday I've managed to get round 7 different boot sales ( thats my record anyway!). If you know what to look out for there is some great money to be made for selling not a lot of items. I can regularly spend £30 and turn that into £300. Get in touch with me and hopefully we can discuss doing some trade. You've probably seen me selling before at York on a Saturday. |
Used to do carbooting when I was a lad. Ah the memories....waking up at 6am going to a muddy field, the smell of bacon in the air.
I remember the first time I sold, was trying to park the car and the vultures descended upon my brother's Ford Capri, sold have the stock before we even got out of the car.
The favourite was early on to get my brother to look after the stall, I would then go around and buy all the bargains. I would then sell them on my stall for a cheeky profit :heh: | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 02:08 PM. | |
