I think small sellers should try to get them a Taobao acc first. Taobao is open to foreigners long time ago. on what to sell, I think is not what China can't make, is the quality China can't produce. those people afford to buy oversea, they are looking for better quality goods, meaning willing to pay higher price. for example, they pay 3-4 time of the price to imported dairy products, because the those products are mouth of worth, and safer. somehow you could guarantee the quality of the goods, I think it will be thrive in China. on the shipping size, you could try a company 4PX, alibaba currently invested in it. they specialized in cross-border shipping.

There is something to sell ....ORIGINAL BRAND ITEMS - they are much more expensive in china for the custom taxes about 200%
So if you can ship ( and the shipping price doesnt play here ) original high level goods like LV,Dior ...GUERLAIN , expensive French wine ...
Just few problems :
- they must find your website
- and you have to declare like them lower price for the product for the chines custom
(don't know if its work for the chinese custom but why not )
I see here in Paris so many chinese spending their money like crasy for high level brand goods
Its not easy to set up but will work I think :)

American Clothing and tools are huge in china....almost anything american my suppliers are always asking me to send them stuff

One thing i found interesting a few years back is sometimes things are manufactured in china but have no distribution channels in china and those products can be very hard to buy in china and extremely expensive.

For example. one of my online business is supplying parts for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors. 2 companies i source from in the US are Parker and Swagelok. Both of these companies have huge factories in Hong Kong. I deal with other companies in China which as me to send parts from these companies because the cost to them is 3x-4x. Those companies do have a single distributor for all of china. But i think they keep the price ultra high to keep other factories from copying their parts.

I mean self-made at home with yogurt starter culture from raw milk. Bulgaria is a big starter cultures producer. In this case if you have a clean good milk, cows, goats or sheeps you can make healthy and delicious product.
