Scammed Digital Goods Help!

Okay so I managed to get my hands on one PC game code (used on Origin) for a fairly recent game. I didn't wish to play it myself so I put it on eBay...Within a day it sells and the buyer seemed happy.

3 Days later he messages me, I could barely understand a word he is saying, his sentence structures were abysmal and he's blackmailing me to give him a refund as the key doesn't work otherwise he would leave negative feedback...Anyways he already left feedback but he accidentally made it positive and it says "DOES NOT WORK"...Clever guy it seems.

I tried redeeming the key and it seems he had already redeemed it. In his next message he sends me a picture showing that he is logged into origin with the game in his library however he is unable to download Origin on his computer as his hardware isn't good enough. He blamed me because apparently YouTube told him to and now a case has been opened up against me...Is there anything I can do in this situation? Or is it my great luck with amazing buyers who definitely don't like screwing me over?

Any help would be much appreciated

I'd email him and ask if the "redeem" was successful and put something like .. There has been problems with network connections .. if he says yes it worked fine but it wont download .. forward email to eBay ..and tell them you have fulfilled your side of the bargain.. is a steam code ? If so u can raise a ticket with steam and they will tell you if hes using it or not and when it activated

That's the problem with digital goods. I think that you can't do anything.

Ah well :( I know that there's a lot of risk when selling them however when I have done so in the past all buyers have been sound

That is always the risk with digital items I am afraid!

No tracking# = you lose

Digital items are very risk items. I believe there's nothing you can do.

Just send a tracked letter with the code on it and if he opens paypal dispute you will win, works for me! Not sure about ebay cases.... anyone?

AndreasP 10-11-2016 09:36 AM

Re: Scammed Digital Goods Help!

Yeah I normally use the tracked letter trick and it works everytime with PayPal however with eBay cases I don't think I stand a chance...

Re: Scammed Digital Goods Help!

It's very 50/50 with eBay

If you already have the tracking then it is worth a go but since it would be a SNAD case then proof of delivery isn't much help

Re: Scammed Digital Goods Help!

Is there no way I can tell eBay that once the item has been used it is un-returnable?

This case is a loser.

Accept the loss and move on.

Personally I would never sell things like gift cards / game codes / etc as scammers target these types of sellers.

If you're the first one to ask eBay to step in and help you will win the case 99% of the time. This is assuming you did your tracking number trick first.

You can try but its unlikely that they will take that into account

Its always buyers first on eBay

That is always the risk with these sorts of items

Mention the word "digital" to ebay/paypal and it's automatic FU.

It just baffles me how ridiculously easy it is to scam the small sellers of these digital goods, thank God I'm not in that game for good, I could see myself stressing 24/7. I will contact eBay but I'll hope for the worst, might have to just accept my losses :(

And this is why we don't suggest people sell these items. Sorry you got burned but those are the waters.

I like to waste money on customers that piss me off by sending them shiit like this https://www.ruindays.com/products/sp...poop-in-a-tube hopefully some of them get hit right in the face, if not they still have to clean it up so to me it is well worth the $20 :brushteeth:

They're sold out. :(

Looks like somebody at ruindays.com isn't getting enough fiber.

EDIT: Ah, I see they have it in the box though. https://www.ruindays.com/collections...ant=1110555784

I guess somebody got tired of shoving their feces down a spring loaded tube and decided to just sh*t in a box instead.

Make your own and put glitter in it, title it 'Glitter Poop Gag Ultimate Seller Remorse Tool' you'll be banking on eBay https://m.popkey.co/327da1/e09zm_f-m...similar&f=.gif

Worse advice in the world. You make no sense with this and your many other useless posts.

Re: Scammed Digital Goods Help!

Just a quick update to everyone, I have just come out of eBay's livechat and it has been extremely successful! The case has been decided in my favour as apparently return cases cannot be opened for digital goods...I think I may've just gotten really lucky with this.

Here is a screenshot from the eBay rep (warning, gyazo link) https://gyazo.com/171a6cdb0c8c9383c012d3698bfff651

Do I have anything else to worry about from here or should everything be all good now?

Re: Scammed Digital Goods Help!

Final update regarding this thread. Everything is sorted now, I received this email this morning :D

This item isn't eligible for eBay Money Back Guarantee. You don't need to do anything else. Because this claim doesn't apply, this case, any Feedback left and all detailed seller ratings left will not affect your seller performance. In addition, any Feedback left for this transaction will be removed. Note: It may take up to 24 hours for these updates to reflect in your Seller Dashboard.
