Grandmother - Grandson - Ipod

Sold a brand new ipod touch to a grandmother, who purchased it for her 10yr old grandson
A week later, the ipod is no longer working
Going back and fourth via email, it turns out her grandson attempted to jailbreak the ipod
She is now wanting to return the item and get a refund, because she is claiming the ipod is not working

Suggestions?

They broke the iPod by trying to Jailbreak it....deny request. Make sure to point that out if they file a claim/return request.....also, "quote" from her exact words as well.

jailbreaking any item voids the manufacturers warranty. The IPod is now out of warranty and subsequently NOT the same IPod that was sold to them. JAILBREAKING and ROOTING gives you unrestricted access to the system files the factory puts on devices to make them all function the exact same on a system level. When that process is tampered with, there's no way the manufacturer can provide assistance for certain due to the fact that things may have changed on the affected device. I'd definitely look up policies for different phones, tablets, and media players in regards to Rooting and/or Jailbraking devices and include that in your dispute. If you bought a new car, switched out the car computer, and then returned it, do you think you'd get a refund if they knew about it (or if you actually informed them you did that)??

hold the power and home button till the apple icon shows up.. keep trying it.. and corrupt the operating system while plugged into a comp with itunes. reset it, and apple will accept the repair..

Do it three times, so everytime the ipod restarts while at the apple logo hold power and home button again, and do it again to make sure it goes into the screen saying it has to be reset.

Also, if the ipod has never been turned on then the warranty is a full year.
