jailbreaking any item voids the manufacturers warranty. The IPod is now out of warranty and subsequently NOT the same IPod that was sold to them. JAILBREAKING and ROOTING gives you unrestricted access to the system files the factory puts on devices to make them all function the exact same on a system level. When that process is tampered with, there's no way the manufacturer can provide assistance for certain due to the fact that things may have changed on the affected device. I'd definitely look up policies for different phones, tablets, and media players in regards to Rooting and/or Jailbraking devices and include that in your dispute. If you bought a new car, switched out the car computer, and then returned it, do you think you'd get a refund if they knew about it (or if you actually informed them you did that)??
