Number of items sold manipulation?

Just curious if you guys know anything related to this because I noticed that my competitor has been pulling this off and it's ridiculous.

Basically, you create a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Ebay/Paypal account, possibly put friend's information who will never use either account and have him bid on your item for xxx amount of quantity for xxx amount. Once you confirm the bid, your listing shows that you sold that many quantities and your friend never ends up paying for the item, or sends a cancellation request.

My competitor has been doing this and his listing is almost always on very top of the page. Dude went from 500 quantities to 10000+ quantities in matter of couple of months which is impossible to sell that many quantities of this particular product.

How do you know it's impossible? Just because YOU can't sell that many...??

Just asking!

It's not impossible. He's got a better selling strategy but I definitely don't think he's doing what you're describing. If so he'd be required to pay eBay selling fees on those thousands of shill orders. For him not to pay fees on those sales he would have to either cancel the orders or open/close unpaid item cases for all of them. Either of those would erase the "sold quantity" for those orders.

This guy doesn't know a thing... It is possible.

I don't care if you believe me. I know how their system works. Unless your competitor is so profitable that he can afford to pay potentially thousands of $'s in selling fees for phake orders, he's not doing what you think he's doing. He's most likely got a very strong, high volume selling account with stellar metrics. Meaning his listings shoot up to the top within days of him making a listing.

Please tell me how exactly you are paying fees for a bid that was accepted but later canceled or never paid? And no, I have tested it and it does not delete the sold quantity.

If that's the case, do what he's doing.

Ebay shill bidding is a very big no no. Do you HONESTLY think that ebay would not notice someone buying and cancelling 100's of items? It's not exactly rocket surgery to figure out. Even the newest of ebay reps can figure it out in minutes.

Any other ways to report him directly other than doing so through the listing?

Okay, first of all if he's shill bidding, he's going to be get caught.

ANd I don't think you are going about this the right way. WHat good is it to mess with other people despite what they are doing? Hmm?!

Focus on your listing, find a way to have a better result for yourself and not messing with others. What comes around goes around.

Even a bot will catch this with ease.

I think that this story is full of exaggeration and fantasy. I see so many holes in this story it can't be real, and I don't see why false purchases that fall though would help your overall ratings - I think it's more likely it would HURT your overall profile.

Perhaps the OP would give us the supposed account listings and name so we can confirm it ourselves.

Re: Number of items sold manipulation?

No one said the guys cancelling 100 orders. If a guy places 1 order for 100 of one item, and then sends a cancel request and you accept it, it will show 100 sold and it was 1 order that was cancelled. Pretty smart if you get away with it.

Also, I'm not sure its considered shill bidding if he used the BIN option, shill bidding is jumping up the price to bring a higher final price. If the person is buying and cancelling he really isn't breaking any rules.

More people will jump on the bandwagon when it says 100 sold.

Let em be.....you seem too focused on your competitor. They may be advertising their stuff on social media and using other SEO techniques.....also reporting them may be a waste of time.
