Default New https rules for ebay listings

Ebay have recently introduced a new policy stating that all images in listings must be https not http due to changes in Google Chromes secure site warnings.

This is a huge pain for me as the image / template hosts I use don't seem to offer a https option.

If you dont use https ebay will hide the item description until the buyer clicks on it to avoid the non secure warnings Google Chrome provides.

I havn't yet changed any of my listings over as I've not had the time.

I can't figure out if I'm obliged to change to HTTPS or if it's my choice but I may get less views if I don't do so.

I assume ebay won't ban me for not changing over quickly enough? I mean there must be 1000s of listings out there that havn't yet changed right?

From what i remember its only when you use images linked in the description of the auction body that it needs a https link.

if you remove images from your body text, and use gallery pictures only the blocking policy does not kick in.

Has the rules now changed for file exchange? Before you couldn't have https links they had to be Http.

Yes that's right but I do have lots of linked images in my description including all my auction templates.

I just used more gallery and stopped putting them in the description to save the hassle. I imagine it will more than put potential customers off that there are security warnings all over a listing.

Am wondering if a solution for you would be some cheap web hosting that comes with domain and ssl cert? (or buy them seperately and set them up).

That way you could upload images to that hosting account, and link to it from your descriptions with a https url which would solve the problem.
so it would like to - https://yournewdomainnamehere.com/images/imagename.jpg

Quite a few hosts offer these together or you can purchase individually, but i would suggest using domain privacy so as not to register using any ownership name/address info that has been previously burned to avoid linking, I also wouldn't want to use the same hosting/domain/ssl for multiple accounts for the same reason.

Agreed, some cheap webspace with hostgator or whatever and added ssl should do the job. The get some inexpensive domains, one for each account. Something like .org or .me or .site if you only want to host pics for ebay.
