Stuck with a product - Need advice
 

I have a fully legit product that I had hard time getting rid of. It's hugely popular but usually is being sold for $3-4 and I don't want to deal with economy shipping. I instead listed in lots of 3, 10,20,50, got many views but no buyers yet. Any advice? I am looking to liquidate it at a wholesale price.

You mention this product is "hugely popular", yet you have no buyers yet?
Seems it may be a pricing issue then?

Have you done any research on what has actualy sold, your market, etc?

There's basically one seller whose listing shows 1800+ sold at around $4 and that's it. It's impossible to compete with someone like that, even though my pictures and prices are better.

It's hugely popular in a way that I get tons and tons of views but no buys. And I still don't know how to deal with it. I spent $600 on the product, and it's painful. I wish I had a way to liquidate it even for a fraction of what i paid for it.

I understand your fustration. It's painful to see your competition selling a ton at a lower price and you can't move it as quickly.

Instead of concentrating on what the competition is doing, you can learn from it. You you have time for some product testing and research? Are you working with multiple accounts, or just one? Have you checked where you listings are in search (cassini) for placement ranking?

I think you misunderstood. There is only 1 competitor and he is selling using a stock photo at a higher price than I had before. My listing has a professional photo which looks awesome and the item is 35% cheaper than his. It's actually pretty high in the ranks, it's just his comes up first and ppl just buy it because it seems cheap to them.

Any suggestions about possible liquidation? Should I message sellers on EB asking to buy my inventory at wholesale price?

If that does work try other marketplaces. I have things I sell on Amazon that don't do as well on eBay and vice versa

if the auction ended at a loss maybe there isnt such a demand now a days .. when i am at this point i sell entire inventory at pretty much what i paid plus the shipping / eb fees . just to get money back to put into something else ..

Did you check the sales history of the other seller?
I see that the top seller of a 'hot' product at higher prices usually have a sales history for the last 6 months...sometimes with nothing recently sold

If you're below the going price, and have great photos, and the account is in great shape, and you even show up above your competitor in search no matter what you say it's either A: NOT A HOT ITEM. B: some or all of your statements are wrong.

If it's not a hot item get rid of the inventory at a price that will recoup your costs and move on to something that will sell.

Frankly, it's far more likely that most or all of the above are incorrect: it isn't a good price, the photos stink, the title and listing are poorly written, and it's not a hot item at all.

It's often hard to accept that other people think something sucks when we think it's great. You need a third party to evaluate your listing.

Find another product to source that is remotely related to this product, but you have much more faith in your ability to sell it in a speedy and profitable manner. Once you have identified this item, bundle them. Create a new listing. You now have a unique listing that nobody is capable of comparing your pricing to and essentially, a gated listing unless another seller wants to go out and get the exact same two products and list against your ASIN. I highly doubt that will happen, though.

*One important factor to note: When bundling items, Amazon policy is that there are three UPCs -- Product 1 | Product 2 | The bundle itself. Do not ever waste a UPC on a bundle. If you do choose to bundle, go to https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gtinx & request an excemption. They are not difficult to acquire.

I am taking this product off EB - it's pointless. The market became too saturated on EB, while on AMZN it still a novelty.

Can someone tell me how do I get through the credit card requirement for amazon? I tried my debit but it didn't work.

I have WF debit card and it didn't go through. I called amazon and they said I need a credit card, not a debit card.

Last I heard they still work, but there are lots of different brands if you don't like that one, wal-mart sells these cards too and a lot of the grocery stores and they all work fine for me, I've used them many times.

Just don't get the kind where you have to put in your SSN. They sell that kind at the dollar stores.

You say that he comes up before you. I guess the product is so cheap that it attracts a clientele that does not filter on "lowest price".

I suggest you try to tweak it so you beat him on best match.
Is he top rated and you are not?
Is he offering a higher quality of shipping with same day handling time?
Maybe buy some social signals and inbound links to your listing?
Does he have 3+ pics while you have 1-2?
Is he selling on GTC with multiple units, while you relist?
Tweak these things so you beat him on best match.

Also do some split testing using the stock photo. You might overestimate your own photo's appeal.

Hmmm... I actually like this. It'll take more work due to the variety, but this could help.

Regardless though , the market really is down. It's clearance time and even the top sellers of a category is only selling at 1% of their initial day to day sales.

Today's the 2nd. Everybody who is really serious has already bought for Valentine's Day, the only people left are the ones who'll scream bloody murder if it isn't there overnight.

In a few days it'll be time to start Valentine clearance markdowns so you don't get stuck with a bunch of dead inventory you have to store for a year then sell at a steeper discount because it's dated and no longer fresh.

You should already be working on the next holiday if holiday sales are your thing, and warming up for the one after that.

Reach out to your competitor. Offer him a good deal for the items.

There are 2 different products from the same "opera". All related to crypto-currencies, which was shown as a top-hot category in the Terapeak.

1st product

Market has been taken over by Chinese sellers, offering the product at $1. The previous competitor who sold @ $3.8 has vanished. I was able to liquidate about 50% of my stock of this item for around 80 cents on a dollar.

2nd item

Only 1 competitor on EB and same on amazon. Very weak selling item on EB, but relatively hot on amazon; but the problem is that the listing already exists on amazon so idk how can I intervene into the market. The software shows $1200/month sales on amazon for this item. I was only able to sell 2 units on EB in 3 weeks. Totally stuck with this one.

Both products look and feel AMAZING, customers are super happy when they receive it, they just don't look for them, I guess.

No, the product has been around for a few months or so. As I said before, it's related to crypto-currencies, specifically bitcoin.

On both. It's sort of a decent selling product on AMZN but completely dead on EB.

The thing about that product is that it was a bubble that bursted. When I found the product and did the math, I was beyond thrilled, as I thought I found a fully legit product with huge margins and crazy demand. It costs 25 cents in China and it was being sold at $25-30 for around one month; and now you can't even sell it for $3. I was just unlucky, as I only got the product when the bubble already bursted. And now I am stuck.

That's the way it often works. By the time you realize it's hot and get on board the game is already wrapping up.

You have to be ahead of the wave and get out while it's still hot.

If I knew had to do that I'd be a rich man. :)

Ha I feel totally stuck with those. I think the only way to sell would be at a extremely low price via economy shipping.

Anyone has any ideas how economy works? I did try it twice but for some reason it was counted as a defect as there's no tracking.
