No, GPS information isn't shared with the websites you visit (except you allow your device AND browser to do so).

Sadly, support for 7 has been discontinued.

You can either live in the past or move forward into today's world.

Who needs support? Only you it seems...

I tend to agree with Empirestate when it comes to W7.

W8 & W10 are a mess in terms of privacy, and send lots of data back to MS that's unwelcome.

Windows XP, Windows 7, and a few nice Linux Distros.

Re: Windows 10 Tracking

I don't really have the time to screw around with old, outdated products. They don't always support new hardware, and I believe my job is to sell and ship stuff at a decent margin.

Cobbling together outdated software and hardware take time and energy away from sourcing new product, selling and fulfilling orders, and spending time with my family.

I personally HATE W10, it updates the system relentlessly and changes every time I turn around, and I feel as if I have to relearn the system every couple of months. I put off updates as long as I can because it wipes all my presets and makes changes to my software.

I definitely preferred XP.

Sounds like my take on things.
I just need things to WORK and be reliable. I don't care about some new "feature" (i.e. BUG) that is put into the OS that just gets in the way of productivity.

Nothing pisses me off more than getting bothered relentlessly by another stupid update or alert when I'm trying to work! This is why I miss XP and W7.

I don't have time to deal with nonsense crap that Microsoft thinks I need/want.

This is why I only use XP (on VM's) to do work. I know it's outdated and dallis hates that, but VMWare is made for outdated software and it handles the hardware/software incompatibility issues flawlessly via virtualization.

Windows 10 was a crappy rushed attempt by Microsoft to put out a touch interface friendly OS to compete with Apple/Google. They're patching it constantly because they literally weren't done coding when they initially released it. I don't own a computer with Win 10 yet. Next laptop I buy will either be a Mac or will be immediately downgraded to Win 7.

They rushed it because they saw the importance of accumulating data....

Hah. They've been collecting as much data as possible since MS-DOS. I think they rushed it because they were losing tons of market share to Apple/Android tablets and smartphones and needed an OS for the Microsoft equivalents.

Exactly.
My techie friends and I always get in a heated debate about this topic every time it comes up. They always mention the fact there is no support or updates for XP, so it must be BAD to keep using it. They also poke jokes at me saying I'm living in the dark ages, etc.

I'll just keep right on using what has worked for me over all these years, be it XP or W7. I just want to get my work done and not have to be constantly nagged by popups, alerts, dialog boxes, update reminders, etc, etc. I also somewhat value my privacy and don't want the mothership in Redmond Washington contacted every time I do something.

I think simplicity and reliability no longer apply when even mentioning Microsoft in the same breath. After all, look what they did to Skype? They took over a great thing and turned it into a crap pile.
