You are the CEO of Ebay, what would you do next?
 

I really like Ebay and I personally think it has a really bright future, but there are for sure some changes they need to make to improve their potential and attract more sellers.


Here is what I would do if I was given the position to lead Ebay: :dance:

1. Change the design of the website. When I search for something on Ebay and I get hundreds of pages in search results, that just strikes me and somehow gives me the feeling that Ebay is full of garbage-items!


2. Scrap the "Best result" algorithm and make sure the engineering department comes up with something different, something "smart". The way Ebay ranks listing baffles me because it makes no sense at all. Here is an example:

A big seller's listing will most of the time be in the first results even though it does not sell anywhere near other listings from small sellers! That in my opinion should change and room should be made for new comers. I know there is something of that currently, but it's not enough.


3. Ban Chinese sellers from taking over local ones while sitting on their asses in Hong Kong. :noidea: why they allow that **** to happen in the first place!


4. Amazon has less fraudulent-buyers than Ebay for a reason > They deal with ****ty buyers more effectively. It seems to me that Ebay didn't understand that many sellers decided to leave because of how they allows customers to keep banging sellers in the ass without facing any consequences.

Sell to Amazon and make off with millions since I would be a huge stockholder.

I really don't know how I could improve the site if I were in charge. I think they're doing fine. The only reason eBay is still relevant is because they're the gray-market capitol of the internet. How can you improve on that without getting eBay in trouble?

Have ever considered spending less time daydreaming about things that will never happen and more time selling?

It's certain to put more money in your pocket than these kind of imaginary exercises.

If you were truly the CEO of eBay, you'd have other things on your mind than simply changing the site. Your first issue is going to be keeping the board and shareholders happy. They do expect a return on their equity, and your days would be numbered if you don't produce. ;)

At the end of the day it's all about the bottom line.

I was a little surprised when I met MM78 ... he looked a lot like the wrestler The Rock! :)

MM78 is nearly 8' tall and his eyes flash lightning when he gets worked up, his voice is like thunder! Impressive guy.

If I was CEO I wouldn't do all of the work OP described.....too much work......I would spend my time enjoying all of my riches......I would not do anything to really improve ebay...

because in reality......90+ percent of the time most people are honest on there......

a very small percentage of bad actors......

I would create a program where everyone and anyone who was previously banned and linked to anything banned (for nearly any reason) would get a second chance.

I'd have a US based team (as opposed to people in the Phillipines asking general public info questions, barely understanding what they're actually doing) verify you with ID, phone/Skype, SS#, whatever... set up an account with a delayed funds release or heavy deposit, and give them a probationary thing they can crawl their way out of back into good standing over time.

It'd give a zillion people a reason to use Ebay again, stay legit, and be very careful with the new-found privilege.
