Default Adding Vat Number

Hey guys , does ebay uk or paypal make you add your vat number once you reach 85K sales volume ?

Also since the ebay account is stealth would I be able to add my own VAT number to the account in the future to save on fees ?

Yes Ebay will make you add VAT number once you hit 85k in sales and if you don’t they will withdraw selling privileges and if you add your own VAT number to Ebay then they will check and find that details of the registered VAT user do not match the Ebay account as it’s stealth, my advice to you is that limit your Ebay account to 70k in sales and then close all listing and move onto another Ebay account and so on and so on.

They don't search on eBay yourself 1000's of sellers selling 100's of expensive items and they not vat registered

They don't force sellers but you maybe get polite email from them to register for VAT

It's shame they should force sellers to display vat no after 85k

Alright now I'm confused, esfree you saying they dont force you and 13obby saying they do....

Im asking because I want to dropship and I know whit that model you'll be turning a lot of revenue but not making the biggest profits in comparison. I don't mind multiple accounts but starting again each time would be disadvantageous because of the zero feedback and zero selling history with each new account

Or maybe dropshipping is just not suited for stealth accounts...

eBay don’t force you to become VAT registered but if you hit the 85k threshold they will inform you of your VAT obligations and if you do not provide a VAT number then your selling privileges will be withdrawn so uhh 🙄 I suppose they are forcing you but as previously stated stop using the account before you hit the threshold and use multiple accounts to spread sales. I have had my selling privileges withdrawn in the past last year on 3 accounts due to accounts hitting thresholds and not providing VAT so be careful.

Interesting I understand now I guess multiple accounts is the only way to do it,

Do you happen to know if amazon have the same policy with vat? Like if you don't supply it once you hit 85k that they will suspend you?

I know they do ask for utr number much sooner than 85k revenue but you can get creative with that

Does anyone know if eBay are only asking Business accounts to provide a VAT number?

Are they asking personal eBay accounts that go over the VAT threshold?

I'm not sure, my main eBay and PP does around £6k per month but I make sure my sales don't go above that so I never need to worry about VAT as I can't be bothered with the headache. Both are business, and haven't been asked to provide any VAT number for eBay and PP as I'm staying under the threshold.

If you need more cash coming through, open some new accounts and spread your sales

If you selling that volume then they will be asking you to upgrade to a business eBay well before you hit that volume in my experience (although not always)

It looks like you would have your selling privileges removed eventually

No I haven’t bothered contacting them since my selling privledges were withdrawn, I’m sure I can get my accounts back to selling as I’ve not used them but to be honest I’ve just moved on to new accounts and this time staying below 85k I’m sticking to 70k and then I’ll pull my listings and move onto another account etc.

I've heard you can add a vat number to a stealth account because the vat number is attached to your company?

Anyone have experience with this?

eBay would just need to look up the VAT number to see that the details are totally wrong. Not a good idea

At the moment spreading sales to make sure you never go over the £85k mark is the best and only option

If ebay withdraw ones selling privileges for not having VAT number, would they contact HMRC and give them your detail? I mean would HMRC come after you for that?
