Price Gouging
 

I need some advice, I bought a Transformer item for my grandson for $36 from a powerseller. Two days later (yesterday) I received "sorry we are out of stock" so this morning I went on Ebay and searched for replacement. The first one to come up was the company that cancelled my order stating they had 11 at $56.00, the IDENTICAL item. So long story short they realized this popular item could bring in more money. I am furious, what steps should I take. I messaged them that they were opening up a can of worms with their unethical selling practices.

There is a chance they are dropshipping and had their price change after your sale.

Nothing you can do other than leave bad FB. Sellers have a right to cancel orders.

eBay says if it's a seller initiated cancellation the buyer can leave whatever feedback they want, but if it's buyer initiated the buyer can't leave bad FB.

Exactly.

If a buyer asked for a cancelation ( buyer has the right to use this option up to 1h after final sale) then its obvious that he cant leave a neg feedback.

But if cancelation is coming from seller then the buyer has feedback full options.

There's also the chance that the seller got new stock in, and the cost was different... and didn't notice it until they sold one.

My advice to OP is... you don't know how to run your own accounts, so don't be thinking that you know the ins and outs of other peoples'.

IF your theory is true, imagine if one of YOUR items suddenly became HOT... and you were able to increase the price like that. Bet you wouldn't be so furious, then, would you?! Quit whining like a little kid and move on...

Like has been said, they sound like a dropshipper. Item has gone OOS, the price has increased at source or their repricing software could have messed up, so they cancelled your order.

You could just re-order elsewhere and move on. I suppose if you feel its really necessary then leave a neg.

A seller can cancel for whatever reason they want, they dont have to take a loss if they make a mistake for whatever reason. Saying its "unethical" is silly.

But whats really silly is spending time on such a simple issue...just move on. No harm done.

The seller is a power seller on eBay, they must sell a lot of items. The customer centric thing to do would of been to honour the transaction even if it was at a small loss. I would of, I mean at the end of the day you did buy and pay for the item and it was the sellers mistake, but not all sellers would want to eat such a loss, and there's nothing you can really do about it aside from leave a negative feedback.

I was about to say the exact same thing.
If you listed and SOLD the item you do what it takes to make the customer happy - even at an extra cost to yourself. Anything is just plain unprofessional.
I agree with others who said it - a negative feedback is in order and you should be able to leave it.

If I'm selling something for $299, but mistakenly list it for $199 and it sells for that... I'm cancelling that sh*t. I don't give a damn what you guys think.

Websites cancel orders all the time for pricing mistakes.

You wont believe how often Amazon makes that mistake. Just yesterday I bought 5 Samsung 4tb 860 SSD evo for 499 each and then Amazon canceled it. I bought it from Amazon warehouse deals. They would have sold for a little over double that. I complained on Amazon chat and got a $50 gift cert.

maybe the made a mistake somewhere, cant you buy the same one from the same seller. maybe they wont cancel this time around.

Given how fast they ship orders out I'm surprised they got there in time to cancel it! ... If it was just one I think Amazon would of let it slide. I think. I may be wrong though.

Well I found out why I cannot leave feedback, the powerseller stated I requested the cancellation, not them cancelling although the email he sent me said he was out of stock (which he wasn't it is still listed at a higher price). So I cannot leave feedback as the liar said I cancelled. So I had to buy from another seller at $20 more.

Wrong.

It depends on what reason the seller cancelled. IF the seller said you asked to cancel then you cant. If this is the case and is not accurate, you can call ebay and then can change it, give the seller a defect and allow you to leave feedback.

If he lied about it call ebay. You have the proof in your inbox which is all they'll need to change things around on this one.

If that's really the case then something must have changed in the last year. One of the only times I've ever a neg for a seller was when they cancelled an order of mine with the reason "buyer requested cancellation". I left a neg saying I didn't want to cancel and that the seller lied to avoid taking a hit on his metrics.

also, you cant leave feedback for 7 days for many power sellers. My accounts are like this for example. I get A LOT less moody buyers when they have to wait a week to leave a negative. Maybe now, it is all powersellers.
