eBay becomes Amazon

When does eBay eventually become Amazon? It looks like they're making steps towards becoming similar to an Amazon. At least the customers seem to be more accustomed to an Amazon world. In the last 2 years (as compared to the last 10 years before)...I've gotten so many "Where is my item? It should have been here?" and "I would like to return"

The digital marketplace is changing

eBay are a few steps behind

They will never be Amazon though. Amazon is Amazon due to its real world infastruction (FBA for example). eBay just cannot compete with that

Ebay was founded on auctions and I believe theyre going to maintain that model to differentiate themselves - trying to compete directly with Amazon would be a foolish move on their part.

I don't see eBay becoming anything similar to Amazon. Amazon steals sales data from it's 3rd party sellers and sells it themselves. eBay on the other hand, encourages sellers to keep selling.

Agree with this - different niches and modus operandi

I hope they don't become Amazon. Giving sellers the power over their inventory is a crucial part of the e-commerce model. Amazon is just Walmart on the internet. The only innovation they made is that the figured out ways on how to deliver items quickly (i.e: they've done that by burning people working at their warehouses).

I have a theory that in the future (10-15 years), Amazon would have kicked out the majority of sellers because they'll be selling all that stuff themselves.

I see eBay and similar marketplaces as a fallback plan in case Amazon turns into the monster I am afraid of.

10-15 years - maybe aim for 5-7

Too many markets to blanket them all profitably let alone the amount of unnecessary work required in finding the best sellers when we could do it for them. Takes the term 'clearance' out of the picture entirely. Something more appealing about skimming through pages with variety rather than forced into buying one product from one manufacturer. Would you only buy Heinz knowing there are 8 other brands out there?

Those FBA warehouses pay for themselves. They'll leave it up to the masses and skim off the top with fees and selling their own versions of high volume products.
