P.S. Very rare for them to do this, but under certain conditions they do it, especially for cheaper items.

eBay (and PayPal) can indeed spring surprises like this.

As a seller, I've had cases which even I thought would (and should) have been decided in favor of the buyer. They ended up being decided in my favor instead, or credit given under "Seller Protection". Kinda funny how that works.

In fact, lately, it seems esp. with PayPal most cases are being decided in my favor. I tend to think both EB/PP are maybe trying to keep more sellers happy because they are losing them to other competing platforms. That's only a guess tho.

Lay down a good argument, show all the facts, follow policy, cases can easily be won. Get a bad rep, dispute it over and over. Haven't lost one yet :)

This is all true, especially the part about reiterating how you followed policy. If you can show that one thing alone, you will win the case, period.

I have had eBay do this for me this past week. The cost of the product? It was $285 USD. It's about following protocol and ensuring the customer has a positive buying experience.
